Top gust here in Gulberwick 70mph so far but worst winds expected over the next couple of hours. That said, I'm actually quite sheltered from the SW! At the Met Observatory in Lerwick which sits on top of a hill at the south end of the town and is very exposed, the highest gust so far has been 91mph!

It had been on the cards for a few days but I'm not sure we were expecting it to be quite as windy as it was across mainland Scotland.

Winds slowly starting to ease now but still gusting in excess of 50kts. Top gust recorded in Shetland was at Sella Ness in the north mainland at 101mph.

Really flipping windy out, glad Santa made it through ok, must have been pretty hairy at times in that clapped-out sledge & reindeer contraption. Was going to go for a potter earlier but didna really fancy it - anyway, too many new toys n that

Weds looks windy again and a bit of a yo-yo for temps this week. Where's winter? Barely even in random weather generator territory aka FI yet...

Santa on Google Maps (Norad) visited two Scottish locations this year, with Edinburgh and Inverness having their presents delivered at approximately 1:00AM. He then visited Iceland before returning to Ireland (Shannon) to prepare for his epic Transatlantic voyage towards America.

Aye. So what will this one be christened? The Revenge of Bawbag?

Still really windy here, gusting over 50mph. Electric off in many parts of Shetland, although not here fortunately. Numerous damage reports coming in. Several roofs blown completely off and several partially damaged, garden sheds/greenhouses destroyed, vehicles damaged, caravan destroyed, trailer blown around the main road, and one of the public Christmas Trees in central Lerwick snapped in half.

After it calmed down last night, the wind is definitely back!

Branches flying past every so often and the river doing it`s best to flood again.

Got my other half coming by coach over the Forth Road Bridge at noon, just hope the bridge stays open! Poor sod set off on Xmas Eve to spend Xmas with family in Hebrides, but public transport screwed up his ferry connection so he had to turn back from Inverness and spent Xmas alone in his flat with no food, shut shops and a broken boiler, poor thing - if he can only make it across to Embra today he gets food and central heating and hot water and a fire to sit by and a bit of bloomin' festive cheer!

Hope we get some decent wintry weather soon...
