Hadley is 6.2C to the 30th, yesterday was mild again at 7.6C.

Today needs to come in at 9.0C for us to finish at 6.3C before adjustments. 5.8-6.1C looks pretty likely after adjustments, which is 1.2-1.5C above the 1981-2010 average - so pretty mild really.

Maxima today needs to be 12.0C or above to make the month 6.3C, which looks quite likely now.

Still in with a shout of finally achieving 5.9C!

Our nice run of below average December's has finally come to an end!

A 5.9C or above finish will also make it the 3rd mildest in the last 23 years aswell.

Too early to say as the inevitable corrections need to be applied first. But we do tend to get the final figure on the first day of the following month, failing that it should be the 2nd.

Hadley is confirmed as 6.0C, which is 1.4C above the 1981-2010 average. The correction was downwards by 0.2C.

That makes it the mildest since 2006 and the third mildest of the last 23 years.

Interesting, I was surprised that the Met Office seemed to go out of their way to say that this was a more typical and 'average' December, with temps close to the seasonal norm and it feeling milder to people due to the contrast from last year. When in fact it's been quite a mild month at least for the CET, as shown by reef's post.

Maybe the average for the UK as a whole has been closer to normal, which they were probably referring to, though it's certainly been quite mild down here.

The 2nd half of the month was very mild by any standards but the first half of the month was considerably less mild. The Met Office were probably referring to the earlier part of the month which was rather average but still mild compared to last December.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
