I'm a little surprised by some of the rainfall totals. I woke up around 2am and it was absolutely hammering down. Woke again around 4am (thank my young daughter for that) and it seemed to be raining even heavier. Got up at 6am to get ready for work (some day I'll get a good night's sleep) and it was still absolutely hammering down. Looking at the radar, there were large areas from East Sussex to Hampshire under very heavy rain for many hours overnight (and still are in some places). I'd expected readings of over 25mm in places. Anyone record more than 25mm overnight?

Not a bad day today, dry with sunny spells after a few heavy showers this afternoon and a top temp of 14.2c.

Currently 6.3c under clear skies - the coolest it has been for quite some time. 5.6c is the lowest temp I've recorded this Autumn way back in mid September!! Just shows how mild it has been, I would have expected a few frosts by this stage.

Drove to the Midlands this afternoon :

Cloudy or dull with rain at times, some heavy to Torrential bursts. Particularly heavy downpours around Ross @ 1600 and Warwick @ 1730. I was hoping to see Warwickshire still under the effects of the prolonged dry conditions however it is a green and damp land once more after some 18mm since last night.

Currently in rugby: clear spells 10c.
