Certainly if the high pressure GFS keeps trying to build in FI comes off we could be looking at a pretty cold period from week two onwards.

Precisely that is one of my thoughts for my low guess earlier in the thread to me general pattern of what I think will happen this month is :

Mild start

High pressure mid month bringing cold frosty foggy conditions

Bitterly Cold snowy end

I maybe wrong or right just my thoughts :D

Have faith ye people. 2005 and 2010 saw spectacular drops and i expect the same (though not the snowfest of last year).

There is a signal for a scandi/ arctic high but I think the jet stream is more amplified this year than in 2010 to allow a similar outcome.

Going to revise my guess. Still an average month, but with some much warmer interludes, perhaps breaching 16-17C on some days. Any cold reserved for the VERY end of the month, if any at all!

7.4C.

Revising my guess for the last time.

7.9C.

Looking at the GEFS it appears we'll start off quite mild but there are signs that high pressure could build over northern Europe mid-month which may eventually lead to chillier weather (at last!).

I'll go with a slightly above average 6.9c.

Well, we already know how it begins, but how does it end? I'll plump for a mild-average-cool/cold affair through the month. An increasingly cooling month with temperatures falling within the 61-90, 71-00 and 81-10 averages average by months end. So: 6.8c please.
