''We're betting on a White Christmas: What are the odds on that?

As cold weather grips Yorkshire, bookmakers have cut the odds of a White Christmas. Temperatures dropped as low as minus 6ºc in parts of the country over the weekend, with some areas above 150m experiencing snow for the first time this winter.''

UK rainfall of the future

We could see a sharp decline in the intensity of UK summer rainfall when daily (24-hour) average temperatures exceed about 22 ºC. New research by Met Office and Newcastle University scientists suggests a sharp decline in the intensity of UK summer rainfall when daily (24-hour) average temperatures exceed about 22ºC.

I think they gradually getting all bases covered. Another bit of research will say the opposite at some point in the future. A case of wait and see what actually happens.

Roses, Lavender and Daffodils all in flower

"The length of the growing season in the UK has increased by more than three weeks as our climate has warmed, which means we're having to cut our lawns much more often in the winter. You won't be able to put the mower away until soil temperatures fall below 5C - and looking at the forecast that won't be happening any time soon!"

As a professional gardener (of 30odd years) the headline of 3 weeks increased growing season due to the climate being warmer is bunkum. We  had an unseasonably warm autumn and yes things like grass are still growing, however one season isn't climate, it's weather.

I feel such sympathy for the people of Cumbria and what they are going through in terms of the recent flooding

I'm only grateful to the Daily Express for warning them what was going to happen in advance, so that some precautions could be taken.
Not that I've seen the headlines.....I don't read the paper myself, but I assume a newspaper which constantly headlines in advance of the apparent arrival of some of the worst weather Britain has ever experienced will surely have highlighted in advance the actual arrival of some of the most newsworthy weather Britain has had this century?
