Cloudy with a few brighter intervals, breezy and still very mild. Currently 15.9 deg C after an overnight low of 14.7.

Yesterday: dry, bright, breezy and very mild, with intervals of hazy sunshine. Maximum 18.2, minimum 15.0. Wind moderate to fresh SW.

After a little rain overnight starting very mild and overcast. At observation, brighter with some weak sunshine, very mild.

Sky: 5 Oktas, Altostratus, Altocumulus, Cirrus.

Temperature: 12.6°C

Staying mostly cloudy with patchy drizzle and windy, though a brief brighter interlude around lunchtime helped the temperature to climb in to the rather warm category, 16.7c, exceptionally mild for early November. How well do you do up there in terms of snow in winter?

I think to myself that because you are on an island you will suffer from the warming effect of the sea, but then on the other hand I think you are so far north, and the sea will be very cold up there in winter, so it wont modify your temperatures at all. Which is correct? :p

Actually a bit of both! We tend not to get serious frosts up here because of the proximity of the sea but being so far north, even when conditions are quite marginal, we can get wintry precip. The main player is really the wind. Often when bad snow is forecast it can blow straight past us! That said we can also get serious dumpings - i.e. in Dec 95 we had level snow several feet deep even in the built up areas like Lerwick and in some outlying areas there were drifts 30 feet deep!
