I suppose it's swings and roundabouts for another week or so, but the days are getting shorter...

Yes plus there is evidently more snow than last week but because we're watching it on a daily basis we don't notice the contrast and this is how it will be now, a slow but evident build up for the next fortnight or so then things will properly get going.

Here`s a link to an Arctic Weather Site i found today which posters watching the approach of Winter should find interesting.

http://www.athropolis.com/map2.htm

It`s easy to view with good maps including latest weather obs. from a number of Arctic based stations.

A good supplement to this thread as we watch the growth of the snow cover in the NH.

Just been having a look at last years vs this years and there seems to be a bit more ice/snow around and more congregated in areas instead of a dusting here and there!

I know it's sad, but I have a bit of a thing about watching the snow and ice spreading back over the Northerner hemisphere, especially Russia.

So I thought I'd start a little thread and post daily images of this process.

So here is number 1.

As you can see we are off the blocks with our first patch of Siberian snow (circled), not much to look at, but it's been there 2 days now :-D.

heres the first to compare.

I envy you, Use to work up at Ft MacMurray. Some classic cold winters, well below zero, late ice breaks in May. Hope to get back there soon. Live it up there.

This is also a useful site - a satellite image of ice and snow, including depths of the latter:

It's updated daily I think.

wow!!! what a difference a day makes!!

It always amazes me to think that snow here is so hit and miss and yet an area twice the size of france can happen overnight?

Check this out homeboy!
