Its been a lovely late summers day here in the Lake District. Plenty of sunshine and no rain or showers, out of the pesky wind it felt quite warm.

The main feature has been the absence of much cloud and the generally excellent visibility - superb weather for being in the fells. Oh why couldn't we have had more days like today during July and August, when the weather is like this the Lake District looks even more amazing than normal.

Tonight is fantastic after a wonderful sunset we now have clear lovely blue skies and the fells are etched perfectly against the skyline. Looking at the forecast I doubt very much we will experience another day like today, by Sept clear spells usually have a cool autumnal feel with weaker heat from the sun.

Pity the bank holiday weekend wasn't now.

  • High pressure in the driving seat until at least the end of May

High pressure continues to dominate our weather until at least early next week, with most staying dry and fine. The warm conditions will spread north, and the highest temperatures will transfer to the west as the high moves east and eventually over Scandinavia. Read the full update here
