Only -4c here this morning after falling to -7c at 11.00pm last night so its getting milder. In spite of this ground is now iron hard and could be very icy if we get rain as forecast for tomorrow

Sprouts and parsnips in the garden will be excellent for Christmas if we can get them out of the ground in time.

It is still foggy here. We have had thick fog since Thursday night now, in fact it was foggy on Wednesday night and although it cleared from directly around where I live the fog did not fully clear from some other local areas on Thursday. So isolated spots will have had fog for 3 and a half days, just two and a half days for me though :o

I can't remember fog lasting this long before, although I'm sure it has happened.

10th ground frost of the year here (assuming I consider one night time period to run to 9am, otherwise it's about seventeen) with a low of -0.6C. Currently a Joan Bakewell sort of day - cold (1.2C), grey but bright.

Morning TM,

Oh well, you should be compensated soon, I would imagine once the cold air begins to dig in next week, the roles will be reversed, you will catch up, maybe even daytime sub zero by Thursday / Friday for you area.

A weather front will bring showery rain to western and northern regions today, as those further southeast enjoy warm sunny spells. Heat then starts to build for the end of the week with 35c on the cards in the southeast. Read the full update here

Heat building - But not before a northwestern soaking

The weather has thrown up two things to focus on during the coming hours and days. First the rain across the north and especially northwest of the UK, with some heavy, persistent downpours today in western Scotland in particular. Second, the build of heat later this week from the south, with temperatures forecast to rise into the mid-thirties, for some at least, by Friday. Read the full update here
