December 1992 was an interesting month with an unsettled and generally mild spell until the 18th but a cold anticyclonic one until the end of the year.

The weather continued mild and unsettled after the wet November and there was some serious flooding in parts of England and Wales.

The weather changed on the 19th as high pressure developed across the UK and this introduced much drier, colder and frostier weather for the rest of the month.

The cold spell turned December 1992 into the coldest December since 1981.
