UK further outlook

Valid for Wed 12 Jul 2006 to Fri 21 Jul 2006

A strong ridge of high pressure is forecast to extend northeastwards across central parts of the UK through the period of this forecast. This will maintain predominantly fine, dry conditions with prolonged sunny spells and mostly light winds although with a small but increasing threat of thunderstorms developing in southern areas later. Perhaps more changeable in the far northwest with occasional rain or showers accompanied at times by a fresh southwesterly breeze but interspersed by drier, brighter periods. Temperatures near normal to warm in the far northwest, otherwise very warm, locally hot inland with a small but significant possibility of very hot conditions developing but with refreshing sea breezes around coasts.

Countrywide, the main emphasis is for plenty of fine and dry weather during this spell with rising temperatures in many regions. An exception will be across northwest Scotland, where rather cloudy skies are expected with a little drizzly rain at times. Yet, some sunshine is still likely at times with temperatures staying near normal. Across all remaining regions of the UK, a good deal of sunshine is in store with nearly everywhere remaining dry. There is just a chance of isolated thunderstorms developing in southern areas after this coming weekend, but the risk should be very small. Temperature levels will climb to the mostly very warm or hot category, perhaps even turning very hot, although fresh easterly winds will be noticeable at times in the south, while sea breezes keep coastal areas fresher than elsewhere.

'Valid for Wed 19 July 2006 to Fri 28 July 2006

An area of high pressure will remain close to the UK for much of the period, giving a good deal of dry and sunny weather. Weak frontal system will remain close to the far northwest, and here we will see some rain at times. During the period, pressure is expected to fall across southern areas of England and Wales, with an increasing risk of thundery showers spreading from the south. Temperatures mostly in the warm to very warm category, but locally hot across central and southern areas. Cooler in the far north.'

Note they dont say the posistion of the high. Also the fact that pressure drops to the south indicates a hot unstable flow. :D

High pressure will continue to dominate the south of Britain during most of the period while frontal bands affect northwestern regions at times (though with weak ridge conditions between). Some cloud and rain is expected at times in the north, though with sunny spells between, best of the sunshine in the east. Central and southern areas are expected to have plenty of dry weather with good sunny periods though there is a small (but increasing) risk of thunderstorms later in the period. Temperatures mostly very warm in the south perhaps briefly hot in some favoured southeastern locations. In the north, temperatures mostly near normal to warm.

Most places should start dry with plenty of sunshine, and it is likely to be hot or very hot to start with high humidity. However, much more unsettled weather is expected to spread northeastwards, reaching all areas by the weekend. Some of the rain could be very heavy for a time with a risk of thunderstorms. Temperatures should ease downwards as fresher conditions edge in from the west. Over the weekend, the weather is expected to be rather unsettled with outbreaks of rain or showers, best of the drier and warmer spells in the south and east. Temperatures in northern and western areas should have by this time fallen back to nearer average. Thereafter, all areas are likely to remain rather unsettled with further rain or showers at times, though little for the southeast, and a trend here for becoming dry. There is a risk of some rather windy weather too, especially in the north and west. Temperatures are expected to be near the seasonal average at first in the northwest, otherwise it should be generally warm, and perhaps becoming hot later in the south and east.

Cooler and less settled weather is expected for the greater part of the period, with occasional rain or showers. Temperatures in the south, after a locally very warm or hot start, will cool off a little, but still warm in the sunshine. In the north, near normal throughout. Later, the south should become drier and more settled once again with sunny periods, but continuing rather changeable with a mix of sunshine and showers to the north. Temperatures still near normal in the north, the south becoming occasionally warm to hot.

All areas are expected to start the period unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, although there will also be some drier, brighter spells. Towards the end of the week and the weekend, pressure is expected to rise from the south, bringing a return to drier, sunnier conditions, although the north and west of Scotland may well keep cloudier conditions at times with occasional rain or showers. These drier, sunnier conditions may well persist throughout the rest of the following week over England and Wales, whilst remaining more changeable further north. Temperature levels will be near average in all areas at first, becoming warm or very warm by the weekend and into the following week, with a small risk of becoming hot again across England and Wales.

The southeastern half of the UK is likely to be generally dry and warm at first, although there is an increasing risk of rain spreading eastwards later this weekend. In contrast, northwestern areas are expected to soon become unsettled with outbreaks of rain and some strong winds after a locally fine start. Into next week, southern parts of the UK are expected to remain predominantly dry whilst central and northern areas are likely to be more unsettled with rain or showers at times. Later next week, and over the following weekend, the predominantly dry weather is expected to affect many parts of the country, the exception being the far north and northeast where some showers are possible. Temperatures will be around normal in most places, perhaps warm in the south.

High pressure will be centred to the west of the British Isles with Atlantic frontal systems moving east and south around the anticyclones northern and eastern flanks. These will maintain changeable conditions across the far north of the UK with showers or longer spells of rain interspersed by some drier, brighter interludes. The bands of cloud and rain will extend further south from time to time, albeit as weakening features with some central, southern and southwestern parts staying mainly dry throughout the period with the best of the sunshine. Temperatures mainly near normal locally warm in central, southern and southwestern parts, excluding East Anglia and perhaps the southeast of England where temperatures may be nearer normal.

High pressure is expected to be maintained to the west of Britain with frontal troughs extending southeastwards across the country from time to time with a mostly north or northwest flow across much of Britain. These frontal bands mostly weakening before they reach southern areas, though some more prolonged rain and strong winds are possible for a time in the east around the middle of next week associated with an area of low pressure lying over the North Sea. Later next week winds are expected to become more westerly, with rain or showers at times in the north, drier conditions with sunny spells in the south. Temperatures will be near normal for many, though rather cool or cool in the north and east at first and locally warm at times in parts of the south and southwest. From later next week temperatures becoming mostly warm in the south, near normal in the north.

I still think that the H.P.'s will tend to be more stubborn to shift and as such the forcasts will improve closer to the day in question. Wednesday is just such a day and I'll wait until closer in to make up my mind as to how bad it'll be.........kids on holiday, dontcha just love it????

It will start cyclonic with rain or showers still affecting the north and east of the UK, with below average temperatures everywhere. Rainfall amounts are expected to be above average, well above average in the northeast. This will soon change towards an unsettled westerly type, still cool, but with depressions now crossing Scotland and other northern areas of the UK. Rain or showers will spread south to affect southern areas at times. Rainfall amounts will still be above average in most areas. Although temperatures will still be below average in most places, southern areas are likely to see some drier, sunnier spells, perhaps allowing brief warmer spells here.

This spell will start in a showery fashion across much of the UK with heavy showers and perhaps prolonged rain in more northern regions. Some sunshine is expected too. Succeeding days will bring further showers or possibly longer outbreaks of rain, particularly towards western and northern Scotland. However, there will be intervals of sunshine in all areas, while southern areas of England and south Wales should turn drier and sunnier for much of the time. Temperatures will be mostly near normal, but rather below normal at times towards northwest Scotland and into the rather warm category in many southern regions of the UK.

The first half of this period is expected to consist of unsettled weather over northwestern districts, with rain, locally heavy on windward slopes, and strong winds. The southeast is expected to be mostly dry and warm, though Wednesday may be cloudy with a little rain. A rather rapid change is then forecast, with the unsettled weather spreading southwards. This is likely to take the form of active fronts bringing rain to all parts, followed by sunshine and blustery showers. Temperatures should be around average, though possibly a little below in the west.

After an unsettled and perhaps windy start on Saturday, the weather should turn drier from the west with more in the way of sunshine, but still some showers. These drier and sunnier conditions should last into Sunday for many with temperatures near average, but further rain is expected to spread to northern and some western areas on this day. Thereafter, several days of unsettled weather are likely with rain or showers at times, though with some brighter spells in between. It is also likely to be rather windy too, and with temperatures remaining near normal generally, this wild will make it feel rather cool. Thereafter, a trend to drier conditions seems likely for some southern areas with temperatures lifting into the warm category. However, northern and some western areas will remain rather unsettled with further rain or showers, with temperatures closer to the seasonal average.

Unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain. These most widespread, heavy and prolonged in the north and east with the best of any drier interludes reserved for areas further south and southwest although there is a significant chance of a spell of more general rain spreading east across all parts early in the period. Southern areas perhaps becoming generally dry later in the period with more prolonged sunny spells developing whilst the northwest is the area most likely to see showers or longer spells of rain. Mainly rather cool at first, and feeling cooler in a fresh west to northwesterly breeze, but temperatures recovering through the period to mainly near normal, perhaps locally a little above normal or warm in parts of the southeast.

Unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain at first but also some drier and brighter spells. The heaviest and most persistent rain is expected over the north with best of the brighter spells over the south. Southern areas perhaps becoming generally drier by the middle of next week with more prolonged sunny spells whilst the north and west see further rain or showers. Rather cool and breezy at first but temperatures recovering to near normal in the north with the south and southeast becoming rather warm and locally warm during the daytime.
