UK Outlook for Thursday 8 Mar 2007 to Saturday 17 Mar 2007:

Unsettled and sometimes very windy weather is expected to continue through to mid-March, with further blustery showers and spells of rain pushing east and north across the UK. The rain will be heavy and persistent at times, particularly in western parts. There will also be short-lived interludes of brighter, though still showery weather, with eastern parts of the UK likely to see the best of the sunshine and slightly longer drier interludes. It will often be mild, particularly in the south of the UK, although with one or two colder days and the occasional night frost, especially in northern parts of the UK. Here, some snowfall is also possible at times, particularly on hills. The greater risk of colder spells is during the week after next.

UK Outlook for Sunday 11 Mar 2007 to Tuesday 20 Mar 2007:

Unsettled and sometimes windy weather is expected to continue with further spells of rain pushing east and north across the UK at times. The rain may still be heavy and persistent for some areas, particularly western parts. There will also be interludes of clearer or brighter weather, though still with some showers mixed in. Eastern parts of the UK are likely to see the best of the sunshine and slightly longer drier interludes. After a very mild start to this period, there is a slightly greater signal now for temperatures to be often nearer the normal for mid-March. There will probably be one or two colder days too, with occasional night frosts, especially in northern parts of the UK. Here, some snowfall is also possible at times, particularly on hills.

UK Outlook for Friday 16 Mar 2007 to Sunday 25 Mar 2007:

Fine, mild weather across southern parts just at first, but then a rather more unsettled weather type, already across northwestern areas is likely to spread across most parts. Occasional rain or showers are expected, and as temperatures dip to near or below average, there is an increasing likelihood of the showers turning wintry for a time. This is most likely later next weekend and early next week in parts of the northeast, with snowfall at higher levels, and an increased risk of frost in many parts of the UK. Beyond this, a rather unsettled look across parts of the north, with occasional damp, windy spells but the south may be more often dry with some sunshine. Temperatures should return towards normal but still with patchy night frost.

A significantly colder weather type, already across northern areas, will spread across all parts by Monday. As temperatures dip to below average, there is an increasing likelihood of showers turning wintry, especially in the north, where significant snowfall (perhaps with blizzards) is possible over hills. Rain, preceded by some snow, will spread from the west on Wednesday. Beyond this, continuing unsettled, but less cold, across parts of the north, with occasional damp, windy spells whilst the south should be more often dry with some sunshine. UK Outlook for Tuesday 20 Mar 2007 to Thursday 29 Mar 2007:

A much colder weather type will have taken hold across all parts before the start of this period, with night frost and still some significant snow in places. The snow is most likely for hilly districts, with any snowfall at lower levels mostly temporary. Wintry showers may keep on going past midweek in the southeast. Elsewhere, cloud and patchy rain is expected to usher in slightly less cold weather around Thursday 22nd, with a likely return to drier, sunnier conditions behind. Beyond this, many areas should have daytime temperatures nearer normal, although rather cold weather may spread back into parts of the south and east of the UK at times. Most areas will have a mix of sunshine and some occasional rain or showers and still occasional night frosts.

Elsewhere, cloud and patchy rain is expected to usher in slightly less cold weather from the west around Thursday 22nd, with a likely return to drier, sunnier conditions. Beyond this, many areas should have daytime temperatures nearer normal, although probably staying rather cold in parts of southeast UK. Towards the end of the month most areas will have a mix of sunshine and occasional rain or showers and still occasional night frosts.

UK Outlook for Monday 26 Mar 2007 to Wednesday 4 Apr 2007:

Much of the UK should start this period dry with some sunny spells and daytime temperatures continuing to recover, reaching near normal values generally and perhaps rather warm in the sunnier inland areas. However, there is still a risk of patchy night frost, while a few areas may be cloudier at times, with perhaps the odd shower or patch of rain. Beyond this, a spell of more unsettled weather seems likely, with occasional rain, especially in western areas where it may be windy at times. A further build of high pressure may well bring a return of settled conditions for the last few days of the period. Daytime temperatures often near or rather above normal, though chilly near some coasts, especially in the east.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 27 Mar 2007 to Thursday 5 Apr 2007:

Much of the UK should start this period dry with some sunny spells and daytime temperatures near normal generally and perhaps rather warm in the sunnier inland areas. By the middle of next week, a spell of more unsettled weather seems likely, with occasional rain, more especially in northern and western areas where it may be windy at times. A further build of high pressure could bring a return of settled conditions towards the following weekend. For the first few days of April rather more unsettled conditions are likely again but still with some reasonable dry spells, especially for the south. Temperatures through the period will often be near or rather above normal, though with some occasional night frosts, chiefly in the north.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 28 Mar 2007 to Friday 6 Apr 2007:

The mainly dry and rather warm spell of weather affecting much of the UK up to Wednesday will probably give way to a period of more unsettled and perhaps windy weather for the second half of next week with most of the rain likely in southern and western areas. A further build of high pressure is likely to bring a return to settled conditions from the north during the following weekend with increasing amounts of sunshine. For the first few days of April rather more unsettled conditions are likely to return but still with some reasonable dry spells. Temperatures through the period will often be rather above normal, though with a temporary dip possible later next week giving some night frosts, especially in the north.

UK Outlook for Thursday 29 Mar 2007 to Saturday 7 Apr 2007:

The period will probably start rather unsettled across the UK but with some brighter, drier spells. Although there is considerable uncertainty regarding the details, the rain appears more likely across western and southern areas. A further build of high pressure is likely to bring a return to settled conditions from the north during next weekend with increasing amounts of sunshine. During the first week of April rather more unsettled conditions are likely to return across northernwestern areas but still with some lengthy dry spells in the south and east. one probably and two likely!

I'm not sure if the word will is still one which the Office prefer not to be used in every sentence. No matter how sure a forecaster was/is we were told use words that are 'similar'.

Using the same word to express oneself is said to 'turn people off' from taking in what has been written or said.

So said the Met O bible on expressions allowed in Public Service Forecasting!!
