UK Outlook for Sunday 4 Feb 2007 to Tuesday 13 Feb 2007:

Following the recent mild interludes, significantly colder conditions are likely to arrive across the UK early next week from the northwest giving a good deal of frost. Although there should still be a lot of dry and bright weather around, parts of the north and east may be affected by wintry showers along with strong winds. Although unsettled conditions will probably be extending slowly and erratically north and east across the UK by the middle of next week, there remains significant uncertainty. It may well remain cold enough for some local snowfalls with the greatest risk of significant snow being on northern hills. Gales are also increasingly likely in the west. As we go into the week after next, unsettled but milder conditions seem more likely generally.

I like this, they say ''it will be cold enough for some local snowfalls at low levels''! http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif :) Although they say it will turn milder thats no where near set in stone so the early signs are good!

The MetO forecast is looking quite good on the evidence of recent models- I can certainly understand why they haven't changed it.

I think the ukmo further outlook is fair enough given the overall model output. Of course everyone would love to see them go for just cold but at present its the most sensible and realistic outlook, that is for the timebeing. http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Wise words from the Met Office. Almost sticking to there previous forecast, but based on today models, taking a slight upgrade with there comments. I don't blame them for not going all out, it's the most sensible option. I think by Sat/Sun we will have the proper forecast from the MetO.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 7 Feb 2007 to Friday 16 Feb 2007:

Dry, cold and bright over northern and eastern areas at first with overnight frosts. Cloud and rain over the southwest will slowly move north and eastwards, reaching all parts of the UK by the end of the week-end. The rain is expected to turn to sleet or snow from the Midlands northwards, particularly over high ground. Over northern England and Scotland there may be significant snowfall over hills and mountains but elsewhere amounts are expected to be negligible. After the week-end all parts of the UK will be milder and wet and windy at times. Gales a possibility in the north and west. However some colder interludes in the far north may lead to wintry precipitation over hills and mountains and perhaps overnight frosts.

That sounds a pretty fair assessment of the situation IMO. :drinks:

An assessments that's pretty much 2 weeks away. I don't think I'll read much into that to be honest. At least it does show the upcoming pattern will be a cold one, and there is in a sense a link to the fact it will turn colder although to be fair, I think that all it is and needs to show.

I don't think the Met Office know what's going to happen this week.

Never mind the Next.

I expect that to change.

Worth putting this updated 3-5 day forecast for pondering:

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Mostly dry Wednesday, but some wintry showers in northeast and some rain or snow likely across southern parts. Thursday/Friday will be unsettled with a continued risk of snowfall in places.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 14 Feb 2007 to Friday 23 Feb 2007:

Unsettled with spells of wet and windy weather at times. It will be especially wet and windy in the southand west on Thursday 15th when there is a risk of severe gales. There will also be drier and brighter interludes, most likely around the start of the weekend, when there may also be night frost and fog. However the incidence of fog and frost should be lower than average overall, with temperatures mostly near or a little above normal. There remains a risk of snow over norther hills at the start of the period but much milder air looks set to spread northeast by Monday 19th. However it will probably turn less mild again towards the end of the period. .

UK Outlook for Thursday 15 Feb 2007 to Saturday 24 Feb 2007:

Unsettled and mild at first with spells of wet and windy weather at times. It will be especially wet and windy on Thursday 15th when there is a risk of severe gales. The rain will turn more showery from the west and by the weekend there is the prospect of at least a brief, drier spell for most parts, but with night frost and fog. It will aslo have become less mild with showers falling as snow over northern hills. By Monday 19th further unsettled and milder conditons are expected to return from the west, though the process is likely to be slow and timing is uncertain. It will probably turn less mild again towards the end of the period. .

UK Outlook for Friday 16 Feb 2007 to Sunday 25 Feb 2007:

Unsettled, predominantly mild weather seems likely through next weekend and probably beyond, with some spells of wet and windy weather likely to cross all parts of the UK. In between, there will be interludes of clearer, drier weather with some sunshine, though still with showers, especially in the west and north. Frost is unlikely to be a common occurrence but can't be ruled out in inland areas if the skies clear overnight. Wintry showers are also possible over some northern hills. The unsettled theme looks like persisting through the rest of the period but with temperature levels become rather more problematical. Mild at times but there is a slightly increased risk of the weather turning colder again, with a risk of frost and snowfall, especially in the north and east.
