Affecting: Southwest England, Central Southern England, Southeast England, East Anglia, The Midlands, Wales and Northern England.

This alert is an update to our previous alert (00097)

Low pressure is currently developing over France and the Bay of Biscay turning conditions thundery there. These storms are expected to slowly drifting northwards during the next 24 hours.

Therefore, outbreaks of thundery rain are likely to spread into Southwest England by Tuesday afternoon, before slowly drifting north and northeast into Wales, Southern England the Midlands, east Anglia and eventually Northern England throughout the evening and overnight.

Some torrential downpours (rain rates in excess of 32mm/3 hours) are expected, and with the rain slow-moving at times, flash flooding could well occur. Driving conditions will also become dangerous. Rainfall totals could be as high as 50mm (2 inches) in places. Lightning, gusty winds and large hail could also be an additional hazard.

As always with this type of set-up, some areas will miss out and see very little rainfall.

Affecting: Southeast England, East Anglia, The Midlands, Wales and Northern England.

Time and Date Valid For: 23:00 Tuesday 28 June to 06:00 Wednesday 29 June 2005.

This flash is an update to our previous alert (00098), which remains valid and in effect.

An area of thunderstorms is currently affecting an area bounded by Anglesey to the north Midlands to the London area then across into the Salisbury plain area, to Bristol to Anglesey.

This area will move north to north east at about 20-25mph. Possibly reaching the northern extent shown on the map in the previous alert before tending to die out.

Along with the thunderstorms, torrential downpours could develop with gusty winds and the potential for very localised flash flooding. Much of the lightning activity will be at high level with only a few ground strikes.
