#IamTeamGB Nation's Biggest Sports Day

Issued: 26th August 2016 12:45

Inspired by the Olympics, at a loss what to watch on the TV, or just willing the Paralympics to start (why is there such a lull?). Sat 27th gives a chance to join in, with I am Team GB and the Nations Biggest Ever Sports Day.

There are large sports days with races and games, free tennis, orienteering, sailing, football academies, parkrun, military fitness, Try Gymnastics, boxing, aikido, walking, running, swimming, ice skating, equestrian, table tennis, netball or basketball. The list goes on.

The forecast for Saturday has been a bit tricky. Overall, there is high pressure which brings mostly settled dry calm conditions. Much of Scotland, N.Ireland, northern England and north plus western Wales look fair, with variable cloud, temperatures peaking in the high teens maybe up to 20C. At times, the cloud could be thick enough to bring a few showery outbreaks of rain but also during the day it will thin and break and brighter skies appear. All fine for your sporting event. Not too hot or humid, but still worth putting on the sunscreen as UV values remain high.

For England and Wales, it is looking warm and still quite humid, but surely that's just more like Rio! For Wales, the midlands, SE England it could be a fine start with warm sunshine. There will also be medium level cloud over central southern England and there is the threat of some heavy, thundery downpours. This is the tricky part. The red front on the surface pressure chart, shows a simple warm front , with hotter air pushing up from the continent. To the north of that, the open semi-circled line is an upper front.

This brings the medium level cloud and the threat of thundery showers, you'll feel it in the air, probably get covered in the tiny black thunder bugs. The ingredients are there for a line of showers to move up from southern England into the Midlands, possible inland Wales during Saturday. It will miss parts of southern Britain, and there is uncertainty about its development. However, if you are off to an event, do take a rain coat just in case there is downpour .

The best way to just keep an eye on this is to look at the Netweather Radar, or download the Netweather Storm App. Then you can see the progress of any showers on Saturday. Have a great time, enjoy the sports and activities.
