Glastonbury week- Time to dry out?

Part 2 Monday 20th June

Summer solstice this morning and you wouldn't have known it at a soggy Glastonbury.

There was enough rain last week, as discussed in part 1, from thundery downpours. This morning's rain came from a waving frontal band, which swept over much of England and Wales giving a very soggy start to Monday. As the setup continues, before gates open on Wednesday, there is a whole lot of water lying on the fields. The main rain band has now cleared, leaving behind a lot of cloud and only a few showers.

Midweek

There will be more fine, bright and drier on the way for Tuesday. Perhaps could have done with more of a breeze to help dry things out but it's not bad. With light SW winds and temperatures around 19C, strong UV and Very High pollen levels

Wednesday could see a little light and patchy rain from a band of cloud over southern Britain. It won't amount to much but just not a completely fine day.

There has been tabloid talk of 30C on Thursday, always going for the extremes. There is some hot and humid air across the continent this week and if the flow changes, maybe around to the south then east this warm, muggy air will spill over southern Britain. That could result in 25/26C for Glastonbury.  At the minute, Somerset seems to stick with the high teens for this week, maybe just into the low twenties.

Uncertainty rises due to a potential push northwards of this hot and humid air, accompanied by heavy thundery showers. Currently, it looks like these hefty downpours will be further east away from Glastonbury, but it will be worth keeping an eye on developments nearer the time.

Clearer overnight into Friday, when we could be back in the westerly flow bringing a few showers and brighter skies, also a fresher feel to things 18C. So better conditions for being in a tent at least.

By the weekend, it should still be in the high teens, maybe 20C with a few showers on Saturday and dry and bright on Sunday. Not bad overall but we'll have to watch these showers.

Keep an eye out here for each day's weather details.
