Storm Chase 2010 - Heads Up..

This is an advanced heads up for our forum users as tomorrow we will be publicising the opportunity to book onto the 2010 storm chase tour..

We will be doing things a little differently this year, with less spaces available (initially at least), a lower deposit and a payment plan available (if you book early).

There will be 3 spaces available on each tour, once each of these spaces are filled we may then add additional spaces, but the long and short of it is, if you want to be certain of a place, book early as others may not be made available beyond this initial batch...

For those booking during May, you can benefit from a low deposit and a monthly payment plan:

£50 deposit + 11 further (monthly) payments of £135 to make a total amount payable of £1535

(this includes an admin fee of £35 to cover the extra costs of the payment plan etc)

If you dont wish to use the payment plan, the deposit required is £150 with the balance of £1350 payable by 15th March 2010.

The tour dates and availability are as follows:

Tour 1: 27th April to 8th May - 0 spaces currently available (additional chase vehicle added)

Tour 2: 8th May to 19th May - 3 spaces currently available (additional chase vehicle added)

Tour 3: 19th May 30th May - 2 spaces currently available (additional chase vehicle added)

This will all be publicised across the site from tomorrow onwards, so if you would like to reserve a place please pm or email me or call the office on 01386 576121. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Please let us know if you are keen to go chasing on those dates - we will register your interest on a first come first served basis and as soon as at least 2 people have put their name forward we will add a vehicle and book you in!

Severe weather, a change

Here’s an interesting item on severe thunderstorm classification from the National Weather Service. The criteria for a storm to be considered severe will be tightened beginning in 2010.

By definition, a thunderstorm is called severe if it produces winds in excess of 58mph or large hail (generally penny size or bigger). The change coming will re-classify the hail criteria to 1″ diameter or larger. In other words, hail size will have to be bigger in order to qualify a storm as severe. The end result should be fewer severe thunderstorm warnings.

This is a very positive change, the way I see it. There are too many warnings for weather extremes these days. Over-warning folks, the so-called “cry-wolf” effect, has the unintended affect of desensitizing people to weather alerts
