  1. It looks like the weather is going to be turning much colder, so this place is going to be very busy. With this in mind, we need everyone to muck in and help keep everything running smoothly. So, if you're discussing the model output, great, this is the place. If not - please head to a different thread, there's loads to choose from, including: Model Banter - for loosely model related chat, moans and ramps. The regional threads - for local weather chat, including will it/won't it snow type discussion. Met Office 16-30 day forecast - for chatting about met office forecasts. As ever, please keep it friendly, and please report any posts you think are an issue. 2. A slight change of plan with the model threads tonight as the hunt for cold thread was getting a tad messy. So, we're back to this being a straight up model discussion thread, in which we'd like everyone to make the effort to stay on topic and discuss only the model output. This means it will be a little stricter in here in terms of off topic posts and the like, so please consider your post and whether it's actually discussing the models before hitting the submit button. For those wanting to be less focused on the model output, we've also opened up a model banter thread for moans, ramps and loosely model related chat. As usual, please keep all posts friendly in here (and indeed in the banter thread). Point scoring and the like are big no-no's! 3. Here we are then a fresh new thread for the ongoing cold hunt. This week at least promises to be somewhat colder with frosts but we are still looking over the horizon for the real deal so the hunt continues. Currently this is the situation at T96hrs from GFS 06z The persistent high over the UK currently giving the quiet and chilly weather. What will happen to the NH pattern in the next few weeks is keeping everyone wondering as we wait to see what effects the current Stratosphere warming will bring to our small part of the world. Whilst a more relaxed exchange of views is acceptable please keep posts friendly, respectful and related to model outputs Don't want to hunt for cold? If you'd prefer a slower paced, more general (not cold slanted) model discussion, please head over to the general thread here. 4. A new thread as we move past the mid-point of Autumn.. This thread is for more general model discussion - eg without the specific focus on the hunt for cold weather, which can be found in the hunt for cold model thread. As ever, please keep it to the models in here. Want to view the model outputs? 5. This is a new thread option we're trialling, which hopefully will become a regular. Please use it to discuss the model output at short range (between 0 and 72 hours). For longer term discussion, please head over to the main model thread: Want to have a bit of banter or a ramp and moan only loosely related to the models? The banter thread is for you: https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/86721-model-moans-ramps-and-banter/ Want to talk about the weather in your part of the country? The regional threads are the place for you: https://www.netweather.tv/forum/forum/142-regional-discussions/ Want to view the model outputs? 6. Here we go with a fresh thread as we move toward Christmas. As ever, please keep it friendly in here - the posting guidelines are at the top of this and every other page in the thread. Don't want to hunt for cold? If you'd prefer a slower paced, more general (not cold slanted) model discussion, please head over to the general thread here. Put the Christmas Decs Up! If you want to make the forum a bit more Christmassy, head to the bottom of the page and choose 'Christmas Special' from the theme menu. 7. Here we go with a fresh hunt for cold thread as we move into a colder spell of weather and towards the end of Autumn. As this is a new thread for this season, there's perhaps been a bit of confusion over what does or doesn't fit in here. So to help out, and be transparent in terms of our moderation of the thread, these are the guidelines we're working to, so if everyone can aim to stay within them, happy days! This is a model related thread, so a general, frequent theme of the model output is a given, but it will not be strictly enforced: Some topic drift, humorous responses etc are fine Posts likely to lead the thread off on an entirely off topic tangent are not ok. For example (but not solely limited to): Posts entirely or mainly about Met Office, BBC or media forecasts with little or no model context, and posts solely asking for a weather forecast in a specific location. Posts which start with something like 'I know this is off topic but ...' are not ok. Posts which break the forum guidelines are not ok (eg trolling, troll-hunting, weather guilt tripping, overly defensive/aggressive, abusive, disrespectful to others) Hopefully this helps, if in doubt please ask a member of the team, and if you see a post you think may fall outside of these guidelines, please report it. If you'd prefer a slower paced, more general (not cold slanted) model discussion, please head over to the general thread here. 8. With winter approaching over the horizon, a lot of people's thoughts are turning to cold weather potential, but while that's fine, it's not everyone's cup of tea. So, we've started this thread for the cold hunting side of model discussion, with a general discussion thread also up and running for those who'd rather look at all other aspects of the model output. Despite the focus on cold weather potential in this thread, please do keep it to the model output. Want to view the model outputs? 9. Greetings! A shiny new model thread for the new season to continue your discussions of the latest charts etc. There looks to be a lot of wild weather to come in the next few days with further showers, heavy rain and blowy weather. As many have illustrated, some particular concerns about Sunday where models, such as the GFS, show a troublesome storm exploding over the U.K! However, since it’s still a few days away and with models showing varied solutions on the Low Pressure system’s track and power, there are still questions as to how bad it may actually be. Even before then, there’s a risk of gales at times with strong South-Westerly to Westerly winds. Please keep on topic in here sticking to the models and please keep things friendly. Rude and insulting behaviour is not tolerated! If your post contains moans, banter and ramps, expect it to either get deleted or moved into a more suitable thread. Would be ideal to keep any banter and moaning to a minimum, otherwise this would be a more suited thread for it (especially if it’s about Autumn): But a bit of moans, banter and ramping is acceptable in here as longs as it still has a fair amount of sensible model chat and is not overdone. Additionally, we also have a Short Range Model Chat thread, which can be used to discuss charts within the short range (preferably around the 0 to 72 hour mark, but up to 5 days would still be okay). But you can still use this main model thread if you wish for short range discussions. Also, we have a Model Tweets thread for posting tweets about the models: ...and a Stratospheric Temperature watch thread for monitoring the temperatures and conditions within the Stratosphere: If you do post tweets about the models in this main model thread, then make sure you include some reasonable discussion of the models in your post as well, otherwise it may get moved to the Model Tweets thread. (Edit): Having said that, we have lots of different topics in this forum section you can take part in, not just the ones mentioned above. ————————— Want to view the model outputs? 10. Please continue with the model discussion here, as we perhaps head towards the hottest spell of what has already been a rare, very dry, very warm summer? Please keep on topic in this thread, by only discussing the model output. This isn't the place to be discussing (or arguing) over weather preferences and the like, so please don't be tempted to go there! And as ever, please also keep it friendly... 11. Well we are around the halfway point of the Spring season and it seems a good time to start a new thread to continue discussions. A look at the 00z ECM day 4 charts shows that finally some widespread warmth is on the way after the cold, damp and often cloudy conditions of recent weeks. A developing Euro high and a stalling Atlantic trough pushing the jet stream further north and bringing the winds from a warmer south/south westerly direction. A welcome change of pattern for most of us i would think. Ok please continue
  12. A fresh model thread as we enter a new phase of weather post-beast. As always please keep it to the models in here. Want to view the model outputs? 13. A busy spell coming up, as the beast from the east arrives. As the focus of the model thread is often a bit further ahead, for those wanting to talk more exclusively about the shorter term outputs, we do have a short-range thread up and running. (You're still welcome to discuss the shorter term in here too though). This thread is all about discussing the models - but we have loads of other options for other topics: As always, please keep it to the models in here, and head over to the banter thread for any moans, ramps and general chat. For threads related to the cold spell, met office forecasts, the winter overall and much more on top, please take a look at the general weather forum: https://www.netweather.tv/forum/forum/1-winter-and-general-weather-discussion/ And finally, if you're wanting to chat about your local weather, the risk of snow in your particular location etc, then the regional threads are for you: https://www.netweather.tv/forum/forum/142-regional-discussions/ Want to view the model outputs? You can get all the major ones here on Netweather: GFS GEFS Ensembles ECMWF ECMWF EPS NetWx-SR NetWx-MR Met-Office Fax GEM GFS Hourly Snow forecast and precip type Model Comparison Global Jet Stream Stratosphere
  14. Ooh yes, it's busy and with good reason - it's a rare beast to see the sort of charts we're seeing right now. It would appear the UK and much of Europe is headed into the freezer, but how cold, and for how long? As always, please keep to just discussing the model output in this thread. We have a thread open to discuss the cold spell - so if you're wanting to chat more generally about it, or talk about forecasts from the BBC, Met Office, Netweather etc, please head over there: https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/89358-ssw-related-cold-spell-will-it-wont-it/ It's also worth keeping an eye on is the blogs from our team including @Jo Farrow & @Nick Finnis, there's some great info about the SSW, the cold spell etc, and new articles will be posted regularly: https://www.netweather.tv/weather-forecasts/blogs Want to view the model outputs? 15. The much talked about SSW has taken place, but as Nick blogged about a few days ago, it doesn't always mean cold for the UK. The signs are good though (if you like cold that is), and the model output is showing a lot of northern blocking currently. It's set to be a really interesting time to follow the models if nothing else, so please carry on the discussion here. As ever, please keep it to model discussion only in this thread..... 16. Please only post about the model output in this thread - if you're unsure what this entails, and what thread you should be using, please see our posting guide: https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/89198-model-threads-posting-guide/. We don't want to do it, but we have and will either block from posting, or pre-moderate the posts of those who continually post off topic posts in here. So please don't let that be you, with what may be a very interesting/exciting spell of weather on the way. If you spot a post which you believe may be off topic or breaking the forum guidelines in any way, please hit the report button, and don't respond in the thread. The team will deal with reports as quickly as they can. Want to view the model outputs? 17. Lots happening weather wise at the moment, and lots of uncertainty as to what may happen next. One thing that is also uncertain sometimes, is what is model discussion, and what isn't. So we've made a handy guide to the model threads, and what posts should go where. Please take a look at it here, and try to use the most relevant thread for your post: As ever, please hit the report button if you spot a post which you believe may be off topic or breaking the forum guidelines in any other way. 18. A fresh thread, and a fresh start I hope. A worrying trend has appeared in recent days, and that's certain individuals becoming quite abusive and virtually harassing people they see as having made an incorrect assessment of the models / teleconnections at some point. We've even had a couple of incidents where people are being sent abusive pm's. This obviously isn't on, the posts on here aren't a service which can be complained about in terms of their accuracy, and no-one making a post on here should ever have to put up with abuse because of it. It's an open forum and everyone is welcome to give their opinion, as much as everyone is welcome to read those opinions and make of them what they will. At the same time though, a discussion around an opinion or even disagreement is fine, as long as it's respectful and reasonable - on both sides. Those voicing their opinion have to understand sometimes someone may disagree or challenge a view, and not take that personally. As ever, please hit the report button if you spot a post which you believe may be an issue. The team will deal with issues as quickly as they can, and when it comes to the abusive posts/pm's etc, we have already taken strong action against those posting them and will continue to do so should any other incidents occur. Interested in short-range model analyses and discussion? Head to the new short-range thread: https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/89089-short-range-model-discussion-into-2018/ Want to have a bit of banter or a ramp and moan only loosely related to the models? 19. A new thread as we head into the new year + introducing a new (hopefully regular) thread option.. As usual, please use this thread to discuss the models in general. We understand that at this time of year, a lot of the focus is on the chances of cold weather, regardless of range. Sometimes this leads to posts looking at other weather types at closer range getting a bit lost. So for that sort of thing, we've started a short-range thread, specifically for looking at the model output between 0 and 72 hours. (Please note, you are still welcome to discuss that in this thread if you wish, and can even cross-post should you want to). Want to have a bit of banter or a ramp and moan only loosely related to the models? 20. After much consideration, I figured it was better to keep the thread title as is, in the hope that we can just get on with chatting about our common interest in the forecasting models in a friendly and reasonable way, especially as Christmas is coming Want to have a bit of banter or a ramp and moan only loosely related to the models? 23. Here is a new thread as we start the Autumn quarter. Today's model runs continue to indicate a pretty mobile Atlantic pattern through the coming week by the looks of things. A glance at the latest fax for Monday shows plenty of frontal activity heading in from the west ending our short little fine spell for today and tomorrow. http://www.meteociel.fr/ukmo/fax/fax84s.gif?3 and below we have ECM mean chart for the end of next week, continuing to show the westerly theme http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/ecmwf/runs/2017090100/EDM1-168.GIF?01-12 Low pressure moving across to the north and the Azores high only able to ridge briefly between the rain bands the new month looks to start on a rather unsettled note with, as often the case in this setup, the best of any brighter spells further south and east. This seems to have been the story of much of our Summer and this pattern seems set to continue for now.
  24. Good evening all. A little late but here is a new thread for the start of the Summer Quarter. The 12z models all show a similar theme during the next week or so with a move towards a rather changeable south westerly pattern. A few snapshots of the 12z ECM for the next week shows an ongoing presence of low pressure to the north and west with occasional ridging further south from a somewhat suppressed Azores high. http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/ecmwf/runs/2017060112/ECM1-48.GIF?01-0http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/ecmwf/runs/2017060112/ECM1-96.GIF?01-0http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/ecmwf/runs/2017060112/ECM1-144.GIF?01-0 so as often the case in this pattern the warmest and brightest conditions will favour locations further south and east. Some showers or rain likely for many of us at times. OK then please continue discussions below.
  25. To cater for those who prefer a slower pace, more in depth discussion around the models, we've decided to setup this new thread. So if the drama and excitement of the main model thread isn't quite your thing, then please feel free to post into this thread. You're also welcome to cross-post - so if you've made a longer post in the model thread, you can copy it into here, and vice-versa.
