Newbie to weather observing here! I observed these amazing clouds which I believe to be altocumulus (May be wrong!), however a section appears to have a hole burnt into it with a different type of cloud inside it (second pic). Does anyone know why this and what causes it? Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow weather enthusiasts I have an odd sighting at the region of Ghent in Belgium. I saw what appeared to be a funnel cloud near the inflow bands of a forming thunderstorm. Am I correct in assuming this?

Just saw this picture posted on Reddit, did a reverse image search on it and it seems to have done its rounds online, so thought I'd also share it, mainly because it's one of those picture's that make you go "WOW!". (Note: This picture is *not* mine (never been lucky enough to get to the States), however the person who took this picture goes by the name of Ryan Shepard.) -> Full Size (2880x1920) (414KB)

This rainbow was perfectly inline with my bedroom window yesterday, also because of how large it was, I had to take 3 pictures to get it all... and I've "bodge-jobbed" the pictures, but you can get the idea.© Dale Hay

From the album: Clouds
Alot of clouds from the storm in Hebburn today! (ignore the date) I'm currently interested in learning anything and everything about clouds. Especially storm clouds. I just find them fascinating. Any info would be great! Thanx -
Spotted this on the horizon on the drive home, unfortunately I only had a standard lens with me. At first glance this appears to be a funnel cloud. Pictures were taken from a slip road beside the A303 Hampshire Wiltshire border Cholderton / Parkhouse Cross looking towards Tidworth, taken this evening around 5.45pm. I am aware of a fire at Wooton Bassett which would be about 30 miles away from where these were taken so I'm unsure if these pictures are a funnel cloud or smoke from that fire but the colour blends too well with the cloud base. The images have been cropped but have not been edited in any other way and are in sequence 1 - 5. All thoughts appreciated.

Was browsing through the modis (terra) near real-time subsets when I spotted something a little out of place on the thumbnail images between Australia and Antarctica. I then had to have a gander at at a larger pic to see what it was, then look at the aqua version, taken a little later to see if it was still there. I thought the contrast between the clear skies and the ring of cloud surrounding it was quite spectacular! A quick check for other satellite imagery on the BOM site, gave a IR image of the same area, showing the same circle, though not as clearly defined. And the explanation for it was a simple high pressure system! I realise it's not anywhere near as spectacular as some other shots (especially some of the storm chase pics!) but I find it impressive that a simple high pressure system can produce something that looks so impressive and slightly ominous too, like something punched a huge hole through the clouds!
