heavy rain Heavy Rainfall and Flood Watch February 2014
mrchoosy replied to ZONE 51's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
I wasn't discussing cities in the uk. The south west is suffering still since December. Somerset and other parts of the sw region have suffered from excessive rain, wind and sea conditions. Mismanagement by government who don't care about rural areas. Political parties look after London and the north but don't care about other parts. Mulchelney cut off for three weeks and counting, if someone has a medical emergency the air ambulance gets called in. If flooding gets worse over the next 10 or 20 years the m5 could be compromised. No upgrade on strategic A303 coming to provide contingency to access in and out of the South West. People's lives down here are badly affected, farmers livelihoods regarding crops and animals by flooding. Homes and businesses damaged etc. I'm afraid people saying America didn't do this and London ok due to barrier doesn't help your fellow countrymen here. -
heavy rain Heavy Rainfall and Flood Watch February 2014
mrchoosy replied to ZONE 51's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
http://www.westernga...tail/story.html planning for possible involvement of armed forces to assist in Somerset according to BBC news tonight, due to heavy rain forecasts. 3 weeks and people still cut off. if this happened in another country i.e the USA and fema a state of emergency would be declared for the county. Government a disgrace -
Southwest & Central Southern England Regional Discussion

Pleased you staying Ian. The jet stream roaring in on top of us by the end of the week may enhance what we do receive from up above which we dont want. South Somerset does not need any more rain. People are struggling round here, and the fields are still soaking wet. -
Hello everyone, hope all are well. Plenty of weather to come, be it cold or not. Interesting site to share with you here - http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display.cgi?a=brit Decent wave heights on the north coast of our peninsula at the moment, up to 15ft high. Check out the model animation when next weeks system moves towards the UK.

Model Output Discussion - 28th November - 4th December
mrchoosy replied to kold weather's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Have any of the model experts looked at the jet stream forecasts recently? To my untrained eye, the jet will be over the UK for at least the next week or so, which I guess will be a factor, regardless of models x, y and z predict. I would be interested in hearing from ch, jh and other respected posters on this -

South West England Cold Spell Discussion

That will be the fact we are in the Blackdown Hills precip shadow. dewpoint and temp still not good according to my weather station, maybe the next wave approaching Honiton may give us a better chance of snow later tonight. -

Thermohaline Conveyor:Rain and Sleet under a boundary of -7 DP of -1/0 and a 2mT of 1 - 3 - any remotely moderate PPN will fall exclusively as snow. I think all this talk about warm sectors is not really understood fully by some. The air is certainly milder than the surrounding air that the low is moving into, but when this air is -10/-11 and -12 the actual warm sector is -7 or -8 which is a nice required snowfall parameter - regardless of whether it is a warm sector relative to it's environmental." hope i dont get told off for this but this quote from another forum site. TC is quite well known to certain people. -

South West England Cold Spell Discussion

well judging by net-w extra radar, i doubt it. Ice will be the biggest problem overnight. Its really a south east weather event, from Hampshire east and north getting the most snow. -

Hi Nick and the rest from the South West and Wales, Have been snowing for the last hour, goes from little bits to flakes the size of 20p pieces, has covered the paths again, and very small patches on the road. Agree with other posters, the precip seems to be stalling over us and pivoting on its journey south west. Current temp -0.5c and dp of -2.0 -
Snow Watch: Wales (cymru) And The South West
mrchoosy replied to Cymro's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
please be happy if you get snow this time round everyone - even if it doesnt stick. We only had sleet last month and I was made up with that. Last snow of any note was 3 or 4 years ago on the top of the Blackdown hills - as we have missed out on previous events. Think 4 or 5 months before that was a decent plume shot with a wonderful lightning show overnight that lasted a couple of hours. -
