  1. At 8.30 this morning, the long trail of rain set up shop over us and made sure to stay right on course to keep stuff falling from the sky for as long as possible. Winter coat back on, hood up and shoes wet; pinning my hopes on a few nice days next week with high pressure preferably positioned to deliver some pleasant warm, clear weather.
  2. I woke up at 3am to quite distant thunder to the south/south east and south west of here, which was nice as the rumbles and flashes of lightning were quite gentle but I still got to enjoy it all. It sounds like this was quite a storm covering multiple locations, although that early direction of travel almost direct west from around Ostend last night was so strange to watch on the radar. Grey skies this morning and still humid.
  3. So humid out there for our lunchtime walk. Uniform grey and white clouds above, very still and the radar showing rain but nothing falling. We are just outside the main warning zones for more severe weather overnight; hopefully we can get a bit of a lightshow and some rumbles nearby. Good luck to those who love a storm:)
  4. Mark wheeler Wow, it's no surprise your ears were ringing being so close! At least no one was hurt I suppose. My husband (who is brontophobic) got really stressed because he is sure he saw sparks outside our back door as the thunder struck. It's definitely the first time thunder has shaken the entire house!
  5. Oh my goodness, massive flash of lightning followed by thunder that literally shook the house under the REALLY heavy rain passing over Surbiton right now!
  6. Some lovely cloudscapes from the North Downs towards Abinger Hammer today. Also bluebells and lambs. A short period of heavy rain arrived at 7pm in Surbiton, but it came and went fairly fast.
  7. Beautiful convective cloudscapes either side of us in Surbiton while we stay under blue skies and sunshine after a cloudy morning. Husband went to Homebase in Epsom and got drenched, with the line between dry roads and soakng wet ones about a mile south of the A3 at Tolworth.
  8. Andy Bown I saw the A303 at Mere on the news this morning flooded. My sister is driving to Midsomer Norton tomorrow from Guildford to visit my mother and we're wondering how passable some of the roads will be; definitely not going via Chitterne!
  9. That was a wild 5 minutes as the squall came through. Heavy, driving rain and hail, the trees waving wildly and the temperature in our lounge dropped as the wind came through our dodgy window frames and down the chimney.
  10. No sign of Storm Jocelyn at Heathrow, a very uneventful landing into grey skies, drizzle and 12 degrees. Ah well...
  11. I'm keeping fingers crossed for arriving back at Heathrow tomorrow afternoon from Prague. @Kentspur we got plenty of snow and ice on the ground It's raining this evening, in case we're missing home maybe
  12. Thanks Tom, I appreciate your very educated guess:) The car had those pretty star-shaped patterns on the windscreen, although the sun is clearing it all now. Frost or no frost, it's absolutely freezing out there!
  13. Very cold here this morning. Local weather station says -1.7c, dew point -5.7c. Husband wants to know why the frost appears to be melting if it's below zero outside. Beautiful clear blue skies again and crisp air.
