  1. The snow in the Ouseburn area of Newcastle where I work had all but melted by around 12pm, was surprised to find that there was actually more and more snow on the ground the closer I got to home (and the coast!). Side streets around here are pretty bad.

This morning was a great reminder of what happens when we get snow of the north sea. High intensity precipitation, big flakes and getting blown around like mad in the wind!

Looking forward to more cold days ahead :)

I understand that but I can just about appreciate it being ridiculous to some folk in 15-18C heat in July - in 11C in December with high winds and quicker cooling with darkness meaning it's gonna get cold earlier?

The lack of daylight lately especially with the amount of rain we've had has been utterly awful.

Hopefully some sunny days to go along with this cold spell! And ice days :D -holds breath-

Having a reasonable cause to wear a coat would is nice now we've finally reached that stage. I wear one for practical reasons (more zipped pockets and a high propensity to lose things) virtually everywhere and the looks I got off a few folk on a few days in early December resembled looks I'd expect in August.

Wearing a coat in the north east is frowned upon 365 days a year haha don't worry about it!

  4. It's looking like at my location (and those with similar height) tonight/ early tomorrow is going to be a washout, as a pocket of slightly warmer uppers moves through with the precipitation. although snow could fall as the band of precipitation approaches/clears.

Best chance I reckon is late morning where there is a chance of catching a snow shower, with more favourable conditions of uppers at around -8 and dewpoints dropping back below freezing.

  5. So here we are, another winter impending and the first taste of it to come this weekend.

As it happens 9 times out of 10 it's going to be marginal! With a band of snow/sleet/rain heading down from the North from the early hours of Saturday, areas with a bit of height and away from the coasts could do well, with low levels also in a with a chance if conditions fall onto the right side of the marginal.

    And as for winter,

As quoted from the above article, "North East road workers have stockpiled thousands of tonnes of salt in preparation for what could be the hardest winter in years."

Maybe they know something we don't!

  6. What a night Wednesday night was, I felt like I was back in the States! Very impressive and at times scary. I'm going to make a highlights video of clips of strikes and photos tomorrow but here are a few photos, check out the structure!

Seen plenty of hail damaged cars and trees driving through Sacriston to work, mainly the north side of Sacriston and Daisy Hill. Never thought I'd see that in the UK.

    Storm moving away over Newcastle...

Not expecting anything as good as that tonight but I'm still keeping a close eye on it ready to head out to that same spot.

    Amazing photos!

My car thanks it that it didn't quite reach here at that intensity like hahah

  7. Last night was great and something a lot of us have been wanting for a long time, a nighttime display, and one that lasted for around 2 hours as well as a storm passed near the coast and then approached from the west.

This heatwave has delivered all the right ingredients this year, not often we can say it all goes to plan like that!

  8. Alright, its my turn to moan. :D  Probably the best conditions in terms of uppers and dewpoints we've had all winter and its dry as a...

Tomorrow looks dry, Tuesday has been downgraded but could still throw up some surprises, as could Wednesday. We persevere :')

  9. Conversely to last night where we had snow turning to rain by morning - I didn't see any snow I was fast asleep and it was as green as any other day when I woke up haha - tonight will see rain turning to snow as the much colder -8 and lower uppers cut in. How fast this happens will dictate hoe much evidence we see of it, and also before the precipitation becomes more sparse. The ideal situation of course being it turns to snow early on whilst the precipitation is still at its best! We deserve some luck sooner or later right?
