  1. its been relatively warm here for the past few days i even turned the heating down again but today it is very chilly and boyfriend just phoned from Reedham and said he has had to put his hat and gloves on as it is too cold to work outside otherwise.

i'm looking at the charts for the end of the week with interest as the 14 day shows snow here for thursday friday and as its only about four days off, its within what i think is a reasonable timeframe, although i appreciate that these things are generally only forecast with accuracy with a couple of hours.

could be some excitment for next weekend.:yahoo:

  2. Hi jj

The very blustery night has turned into a very blustery day here - I know it's Friday but it feels more like a Winds day !

At least it's a mild zephyr - temperatures are well into double digits :o

    Hi snowangel

Well,it was very still here all day but in the past hour or so the wind has been getting gradually stronger again and now it is again howling in the chimney, but as you say, i've just been outside and it wasn't very warm, but not very cold either. Im trying to catch the weather forecast on tv to see what the weekend is meant to be like if its still going to be windy.

  3. Boyfriend phoned me from Reedham last night and said it was very blustery and he was thinking maybe some branches would come down. But it was still here at the time - around ten oclock. However, in the middle of the night I woke up because the wind was howling in the chimney and something was clattering in the wind outside.

Just been reading about how bad it was in the North of England last night, and unless i missed it, i don't think it was very well forecast by tv weather.

All is calm again here this morning.

  4. Black ice on Miton Keynes roads caused problems for motorists this morning !

The warnings and gritting lorries were out too late for some, including the vehicle I saw do a 360 and take out the road sign on the V10 earlier

Boyfriend slid on black ice on the way home from Reedham at about 6.30 tonight and I saw a little bit of ice on a puddle in the street.Boyfriend was ok but didnt expect it.

  5. Hi jj,

It's dry and chilly here - with a max temp. of 3.3 °C at lunchtime, but the breeze has picked up so it feels colder now !

It's still worth keeping an eye on the lamposts tonight I think

    Hi!

I will watch the lamppost tonight but I'm still not convinced, especially by the different things being forecast eg lots of snow, no snow. And especially as it has been so dry today as well, it seems there is no rain or anything else about.

I really want to get one of those weather forecast machines and be able to see what temperature it is.I know it has got colder here but can't say what temperature it is now, ior what it was before.

I think i might have messed up this quote! lol!

  6. I'm staying agnostic about MB's forecasting methods for the time being. If this storm comes to pass, and to a degree I really hope it doesn't because of the implications it would have, then I think the study of meteorology has to be fundamentally re-examined by the scientific establishment.

I'm following this discussion with interest but really I don't see why someone couldn't come up with a new method of interpreting or forecasting weather charts. It reminds me of when they said the world was flat then other methods of working it out were discovered.I think its great that we evolve and discover new ways of thinking about things.I am sure there are other weather related issues we have yet to discover and may not discover for decades to come.It would be boring to think that everything which could be discovered has already been discovered.

  7. postie has delivered the SmartWeather wireless weather station that I ordered from Amazon well before Christmas, when the temperatures were pretty exciting for these parts. Tomorrow I'm going to mount it out in the middle of the garden, which is now more duckpond than lawn (quite literally, I have a lot of birds)!

Maybe a stupid question but curious if temperatures get down really low again can your weather station break? If its outside?
