  1. Hey everyone (dusts off my cobwebs) I got a weather alert for Nottingham on my emails for severe thunderstorms today for you guys!!!!! clapping.gif YAY!!!! finally eh? When I moved to NY state I never turned off my notifications for severe weather so i still get to know whats going on over in the good ol UK good.gif Anyone on here who knows me will know about my incessant whining over missing like ALL the storms and snow when I lived in Notts!!!! So HURRAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ENJOY THE STORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I was under the impression that the earth's surface would be a lot colder without the atmosphere? But then maybe more solar radiation would heat it up more.. The greenhouse effect from various gases (mainly water vapour in fact) already keeps us 30C warmer than we would be without it.

I also thought Venus (shown in an image above) was so hot (hotter than Mercury) because of the huge amounts of CO2 and runaway greenhouse effect on that planet.

I'm pretty sure the moon is very cold without an atmosphere. Sorry if this is slightly off topic.

Some interesting developments in the Stratosphere, I can only watch and read the excellent input from a few members on here, as others have said thanks very much for the excellent updates! :)

The moon is very cold and VERY HOT! Daytime temps are over 200F!!! and nightime is -250F below zero! All of this is due to no atmosphere, so i reckon the same would be for the earth to some extent if we had no atmosphere :D

  3. :smiliz46: god this is so FRUSTRATING, I can see the precip like 1.5miles to my south!! Its RIGHT OVER MY OLD HOUSE WHERE I USED TO LIVE!!!!!!

I can only hope its just rain over there though... I hate being so suicidal over weather all the time! LOL!!!

The LE3 snow shield is back...

OMG Andy I just saw that hahahahaha, thats too funny!!! Its almost CREEPY! You really do have to laugh!

    I KNEW IT WOULDNT SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I woke up this morning to nothing but wet surfaces.. no rain no snow no anything! Just pukeness all around me. God I hate this city. We are too far as well for the Cheshire gap!!! To far west for easterlies, too far east for Chesherlies, to far south for the northern cold. And TOO FAR NORTH FOR POOFY SOUTHERN LOWS !!! +ahem+ right so hopefully this week-end like saturday/sunday wemight get some wintery showers. Im gonna check the 0z...

  5. Hi Crimson! I see you're in Notts - whereabouts? I'm in Long Eaton, very amateur at this but seriously hoping for some snow!!!!!!!

Hi beccaboo! I used to live just outside of the centre of Notts City but now moved 5 miles north to Arnold. My postcode is still NG5 so I didnt bother changin it in my profile. I will bet £1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 that the snow will stop at Leicester and not come north enough to Nottingham. Nottingham is the Nemisis of snow

  6. Hey everyone, just got back online- can anyone update me on where the eye is now? and I have been reading reports of the Low being a little bit further north, or slower, or (dare I say it) the East Midlands coming off with a slight chance of seeing some of the white stuff. But I dont see any "upgrades" for that on the Meto site or the 18z, or any charts i have recklessly scanned through (radar is also showing precip still to my west and south) Anyone catch me up on any news??? :good:

  7. Well if we have it this year i'll send it your way!!!! I love snow but last year was madness. Cost me a fortune to fix my roof and conservatory roof, and a burst pipe!

aww thanks hun! :good: But I will be moving to upstate NY in mid-Jan so I will hopefully have FEET of snow to run around in. I cant wait to finally get some really snowy full-on Blizzacains!!!!!

  8. We're not far from each other and my area had loads of snow last winter?!

HAHAHA!!! Dont get me started on your area!!!!! You guys got obliterated up there! (I hate you all! ) Yeah not that much further north than me. It was that streamer you got caught in. Me? I got a whopping 4cm out of that... It was absolute torture watching the radar and seeing the north of the region get pasted, and only like 10 miles north..... Last year placed a lot of extra gray hairs on my head! :D

  9. Many local forecasters for Nottingham have said that it would be just rain, not snow, particularly on the radio

oh I figured that much. Us getting snow has got about the same odds as this planet being hit by a gamma ray burst! I meant the potential easterly that could develop over the xmas period, which might give off streamers and maybe just maybe, I might get a few flakes out of that. But snow for Nottingham off this system??? I doubt it highly. WAAAAY too marginal temp-wise and its too far south and west now. Im still HOPING though hahaha

  10. :w00t: OMG I know Andy right???? Ot looks like Im gonna have to dig out the old avatar for us from last winter with the huge snow sheild around our cities hahaha!!!

I must say, I find this very confusing with the met office having saftey cone orange warnings for east midlands, and then on the map for the warnngs it only shows west midlands, and I dont have any rain/snow/sleet at ALL now. I really do hope this shifts more north for us!! Im sooooooooooooooooo on radar watch tonight!!!!

  11. Lmao!! This is absolutely ridiculous, not even 12-18 hours till the event and the models are flip flopping all over the shop. NAE downgrades for central and Northern Midlands, GFS upgrades... Well i'm just going to expect nothing tonight/tomorrow and that way I won't be disappointed :good:

LOL!!! You say that, but you know secretly you will be on lamp post duty and radar watch throughout the night. begging and pleading for the snow to reach us hahaha. Then absolute suicidal disappointment tomorrow when we wake up with just rain and a random flake thrown in for good measure hahaha

C'mon midlands!!! we well deserve snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder if the meto are going to put out another one of their video updates?

  12. does anyone know ideally where the Low needs to be placed in order to get snow for east midlands? OK Nottingham? How about for NG5 6NQ? :D No but really.. is it more of a matter of temperature now instead of where the low will be going? It seems that the event is so marginal for snow that perhaps 50-75 miles might make a difference for some of us.

edit: My answer has been given before my post aired! lol

  13. is this low due to come later than we thought? I have now for my GFS that the precip is coming FRIDAY night not tonight as I 1st thought. I need to add that the irony of now being far too north for snow is unbearable lol! Deffo gonna nowcast though. I just love brutal dissappointment hahaha. No just kidding,, im moving to upstate NY in a month so will have all the snow in the world. Yee-haw!!! +throws cowboy hat+

  14. Im not meaning to be so pessimistic, but its becoming a bit of an expected pattern in my part of the world for a lack of snow unless we're higher, or things are absolutely 100% perfect. Ie, sadly not in the next few days.

LOL Join the big fat club. I have so many slasher scars on my wrists from "let-down" events for the midlands that Looney Van is permanently parked outside my house waiting for another wrist slitting episode.....

The east midlands always get screwed. Ni wind, no storms, DEFFO no snow (at least in Notts) and now Friday's event is probably reserved for London and the southeast. Last night I was suppossed to have wind gusts of 50mph and had like 1 leaf swirling around my front door. I couldve kept a match lit. This friday will no doubt give the peak district snow, and anywhere east of the hills will be rain until you hit the Northampton and Cambridge county boarders where it will be snow. I knew this would happen. Yet tragically I will still hold onto dire hope until the first drop of rain falls from the sky on friday.

I would recommend some posters to be more objective when posting in this thread...Yes we all know it's frustrating when the weather doesn't play ball, but is some of the defeatism creeping into posts really necessary?

    YES :D
