  1. Met Office now suggesting that light snow will start in my area as early as 8pm tonight and be pretty well continuous albeit light throughout Wednesday daylight hours. Therefore, much more hopeful of at least a covering now.
  2. Fom a glass half full perspective the UK Met Office are advising of a wintry mix including snow for the next five days, any forecast after that time frame is just not worth considering unless disappointment and depression rock your particular boat, but even in the extended time frame at the very least, includes freezing fog, severe frosts snow etc etc. Notwithstanding that at 11:08 today a level 3 out of 4 cold weather alert has been issued By the Met Office for some parts of the midlands and level 2 for other parts. I would therefore contend that for the next 2 weeks at least but most probably longer a seriously wintry outlook is unfolding. Do not understand that just because GFS suggests it otherwise, then is must be so. Off to fetch skis and ice climbing gear out of the loft and pour over maps of peak district, lake district and Snowdonia. Enjoy

  5. Overnight low of minus 2.4c, everywhere white & crispy albeit with no snow
  6. London Heathrow - No Belfast - No Cork - No Aberdeen - Yes Edinburgh - Yes Liverpool - No Manchester - No Cardiff - No Norwich - No Newcastle - Yes
  7. Mild and windy overnight but dry with temp climbing to high of 11.9c at 05:12. Still very windy now with temp of 11.0c and overcast
  8. Not much in the way of lightning in this part of Northants (Moulton) but continual rumbling of thunder for almost an hour
  9. Sun breaking through here in Northants and some towering clouds to the south west, fingers crossed
  10. Considering what has been occurring this winter synoptically and meteorologically, noteworthy, is about as accurate description as one could use
  11. I saw that too. I was rather hoping he was going to let go of his oversized waterproof trousers, that he was keeping a firm grip of, and show the nation exactly how he felt.
  12. No let up from current pattern I fear and therefore, 5.2c from me
  13. Thunder, window rattling, lightning mostly cc, hail blown sideways, torrential rain, very dark, street lights on, those that remain came on in a word Fantastic !!
  14. Sorry very difficult to read your posts must be my old eyes, any chance you can increase the size of your font. Thanks
  15. Looking good for some skiing on Raise in the not to distant future
  16. I noticed this too. Currently 2.9c in this part of Northants.cold but not freezing rain at surface level.
  17. The weather being dynamic will I am sure teach us another lesson and any change will be swift and unforeseen. Which, I guess is why we have models .... to try and second guess the weather.
  18. Click on your username and then choose manage ignore prefs. I have 3 pages of ignores which makes the whole forum a lot more pleasant
  19. Did/do exactly the same myself and never got close to calling for MRT, here's hoping for a winter to remember in the hills
  20. Haha, an older climber once advised me that if I wanted to know the local mountain weather then "look up", however I doubt even he would do that in the region I specified with today's advances, many still of course do and pay a heavy price. Of course the jet stream is modelled I was just expressing my preferred indicators when the viewing the models. All the best
  21. One of the most telling remarks in recent hours and days and one that should be borne in mind above all others come from Gibby and the direction of the jet stream. The charts can be as wintry as you like, upstream, downstream and over the back of Bill's mother weather patterns can show what they like but it is not going to happen unless the jet stream is favourable. At present this is showing no inclination to do so. I have always understood that it is the jet stream that drives weather systems. Clearly other factors may contribute but certainly not to the extent as the jet stream and gulf stream. For climbers the positioning and movement/forecast of the jet stream over mountainous areas such as the himalaya is critical. I have always looked to our south west, the prevailing direction for our weather and the positioning of jet stream saves a lot of heartache and hopecasting.
  22. Ditto here in Moulton. Looking at the radar we are right on the edge of the cloud that has rolled in from the north sea. I am sure that a couple of miles to the west there will be sunshine.
