  1. "Not a good winter" is an understatement, it has been a bloody awful one! The most we have had is a light hail/snow dusting at the start of Feb. Unfortunately there is no real high ground near me, the highest is scraping 200m, Cannock Chase has some at around 250m but as it is the middle of a forest I really don't want to be trekking through it just to see some snow, not that desperate...yet! I am confident of getting at least something. 2cm would be the best this winter, the most snow I have ever seen here in my life was Feb 8th 2007 when we got around 10cm. I have seen 3 feet up the Peak District, thats the most I have ever seen anywhere. But I believe it will be a case of being glued to the radar for the next 3 days, things could get interesting, as well as extremely frustrating. But a cold spell wouldn't be a cold spell without the annoyance though would it! All I want is to wake up to a cm or 2 in the morning and I shall be very happy, it can melt all it wants then. After this weekend I shall turn mild ramper as I want summer to roll in now. Statistically speaking yes, realistically speaking probably not
  2. Hi James, not looking too great for the south-western quarter this time I am afraid. I reckon you could get some on Saturday and Sunday early morning, so if you get up Cleeve Hill after any decent heavy shower you may get a nice covering. Seems like a mainly eastern England/east Midlands event but not exclusively. Only an amateur so not the best source of info, but happy to try and help Ps. The forecaster on Midlands Today described it as "not so nice weather" this weekend, I would disagree totally! PsPs (if there is such an abbreviation  ) Shefali Oza strikes again, she must love mild weather, described 2cm at lower levels as "alot of snow". Shows the times we are in really
  3. Ha! On the snow depth chart, the finger of nothingness is slap bang right over me! Thank goodness they are only experimental.
  4. Argh agonisingly close to the Met Office early warning! Still in the advisory though. I for one like this new warning system!
  5. Give the precipitation type charts in the datacentre a go, I find them quite useful being an amateur. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=snow;sess= The snow forecasting data charts are there. They will be updating at the moment for the GFS 18z so only the first few will be available. But I think they give a good rough idea, however they are only based on 1 model run so don't take it as fact.
  6. He has an account on here now so maybe we could ask him. Anyway, the 18z is trickling out now, eyes down...
  7. Yup, I may be too far west for any of that but it does look interesting to say the least. I am confident of getting at least a 5 mins rogue wintry flurry during the easter weekend, that's all I ask for! I am sure many in the south feel the same after this truly abysmal winter. I am awaiting the 18z rather nervously...
  8. I never knew he still worked for the BBC, thought he retired for good. Great to see him forecasting on the TV again though!
  9. Yeah I know, she normally downplays it and we get a good covering. So judging by this forecast she has given it the kiss of death  Yes, our easter holidays begin Friday so it is an ideal cold spell in my eyes! Normally I have to sneak on whenever I am at a computer to keep check on the latest situation. Makes a nice change!
  10. Flippin 'eck, Shefali Oza went on a cold ramping rampage on the Midlands Today forecast! "More than just a dusting"! Highly unusual! 2-5cm also mentioned which even I think is on the optimistic side. Wouldn't be complaining if it did occur though
  11. No there is a fair chance we should get some: Friday morning: http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20080...ctypeuktopo.png Saturday morning: http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20080...ctypeuktopo.png Saturday evening: http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20080...ctypeuktopo.png Sunday morning if this will budge further east: http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20080...ctypeuktopo.png Could all go pear-shaped though of course!
  12. Exactly a year before me! I feel I am a jinx to these pathetic winters, as soon as I was born all weather ceased B)
  13. Clear, sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Very calm. Temp...2.8c (low -2.5c) Humidity...70% Barometer...1043.2mb & Steady Wind chill...2.5c Dew point...-2.2c Weather Station (upated every 15 mins): http://uk.geocities.com/cplee62@btinternet...Vantage_Pro.htm
  14. Being 15 I can only really remember the "winters" of the 2000s, which all of them were pretty much dismal in terms of snow. But this year has to take the wooden spoon so far, OK I have had some form of wintry stuff in each month, but the best was an hour of very slushy snow which melted overnight. Possibly one of the most snowless winters I can remember. Although, even last winter had a lifeline, so who knows. I certainly wont be writing it off until my birthday (Feb 27th), if I haven't got a decent covering til then, then roll on summer is my opinion. April is more of a late spring month as we saw last year, and any snow that falls in the back end of March will just turn into a puddle in a glimmer of sunlight. Still a month to go yet though, we all remember what happened last year.
  15. Temperature now 1.9c, but dew point 1.2c and I understand it needs to be below 0c in order for snow. Despite the radar showing ppn directly on top of me, there is absolutely nothing falling from the sky! We did get sleet earlier, consisting of about 70% wet snow and 30% rain.
  16. Looking at the radars, there are some nice looking showers packing in behind. But this brings up the question, where has this cold air suddenly appeared from? Will it stick around?
  17. OMG! Heavy snow!! What the hell?! Where did this come from?? Not that Im complainin!!
  18. Why is it whenever it gets even remotely cold, the monthly outlook forecaster is desperate to get the mild conditions back?! Half the time they are wrong so I don't really pay any attention to them!
  19. 807.5mm so far, 31mm this month, I will go and check the monthly readings in a bit
  20. Simon Keeling (off weatheronline) for Midlands today gave his forecast for Xmas. Said rain should clear to bright spells and a few showers, only wintriness would be a little sleet on the staffordshire moorlands and high ground of shropshire, so in other words naff all!
  21. Snow in Cannock now settling, temperature 0.5c, what happened to the "only settling above 200m-300m" or whatever it was the met office were saying??
  22. Moderate rain with flakes of wet snow mixed in, I would say 30% snow, 70% rain but its better than nothing I suppose! Temp is 2.5c, did drop quite quickly at one point but seems to have become more steady.
  23. Yes those forecasts were from before I was even born! Just seeing them is like staring into a different world, oh where have those days gone, I would give anything to get a few days of that!
  24. Ha imagine if that did happen this winter. the whole country would be plunged into chaos. I would like to see it happen not only cos I love the cold weather but to see just how unprepared our country is for the climate we SHOULD have
  25. oh i wish i was old enough to be around for that i wasnt even born then! the best snow I can remember is the one we had in feb, and going by what people are recalling from decades ago, it was nothing compared days gone by. but you never know, we could have one more forecast like that before the world boils!
