Ah the joys of Uni life..or polytechnic in my case..i left in 1991 (1987-91).. i only ever remember havin one 9 am start and that was on a monday..wednesday was a free day because i played for the 1st team at football in the university leagues.

Heres a tip if you want that was given to me before i started and was true for me...the people you meet in your first week are the people you spend the next four years trying to avoid!..lol

Also if your next four years are anything like mine they will be probably some of the best times of your life..mind you i did spend a lot more time in the bar and on the football pitch than i did in lectures. You make some great lifelong friends and meet some interesting people.

Hope you have as much fun as i did..good luck!
Thanks :D

So far I love my flatmates and the friends I have made on my course, but I am barely 2 weeks in yet....

Great to see you have settled in well and enjoying uni life! :D

I'm now about to start Week 6 (!) here and have a reading week coming up for Week 7, so will be halfway through my first term already! Loving it here though, the course I'm doing has been good and fairly basic so far but I am sure it will get harder very soon. Got a nice timetable too - two 9am starts and a 4 day weekend :D

Flatmates are great, and meeting loads of new people on the course so don't regret giving up home and job for uni! You're lucky to have catered accomodation! Plenty of my flatmates could do with that judging by the food they burn haha!

Glad you are enjoying it too! Argh, your timetable is far nicer than mine. My spring timetable is far worse - I have 4 9am starts!! I don't think I will be having a reading week, got my first set of Maths and Physics problem sheets though - nothing too difficult though so far but I am absolutely certain it will crank up a few gears. Haven't done a great deal of Meteorology yet, mainly learning about the different layers of the atmosphere and basic satellite imagery analysis.

Half of my flat are Midlanders so I don't feel quite so isolated :p. I'm so glad I'm not self catered, I am eating far better than a lot of them by the sounds of it. We don't get evening meals at weekends though so we can sample the takeaway cuisines of Reading :D. Getting up for breakfast hasn't been easy at times though, despite the fact that breakfast is on until midday!!

  3. Thanks Sammie! Not yet, I have a pretty good idea though of who I am putting as firm and insurance.

I have been invited to a visit day to Reading on January 15th, so that will probably cement it as my firm choice. East Anglia will probably be my insurance, the only thing that puts me off about it though is that it takes about 4 days to get to Norwich, ridiculously far away!

I have completed my form now and sent it off, so the waiting game for me too! Feels strange knowing I am going to be an immature mature student!
Good luck! Still had only the one offer, no worries yet though! Do the immature and mature cancel each other out?
  5. I am one of 6 in a roughly same size 6th form. It is extremely challenging but hugely worthwhile. the Further Pure modules are solid - especially FP2. Thankfully we have excellent teachers and a dedicated maths department to help us through it.

East Anglia have invited me to attend a visit day now, was originally 9th Dec, but unfortunately couldn't make that date. Rang them though and got a new date of March 10th, while away but at least I have a date! No more offers just yet/
