  1. .....knowing my luck redditch will have a good storm on sunday and chatham will get nothing! lol!

Don't worry, I will let you know if we do :wallbash: Yes Redditch is green and spacious, but at least you will be closer to the sea. Good luck with the move.

  2. hi guys! just got back from work which is 3 miles from my house! I was gutted cos i heard a few rumbles of thunder at work and hubby and my 2 boys had a great time in the middle of the thunderstorm at home! they said it lasted 15 mins with torrential rain, CG lightening and very loud thunder! cant believe we hardly got anything at work just a few rumbles! i was only 3 miles down the road :)

I could hear distant thunder but saw no lightning and we got no rain whatsoever. I would never have said that I was in the middle of a storm, just the edge of it. I'm in Headless Cross. Just goes to show how isolated these storms were. :)

  3. The only storm near to you is just SE of B/ham. Looks like a potent little bugger. Perhaps this is where the thunder is coming from?

Yeah, it could be. That means it's moving away from me. It also explains why aircraft keep flying over my house as Birmingham Airport is about 20 miles east of me. Cheers!

  4. Just heard some more thunder. I cannot see where it is coming from though. There are no dark clouds near me yet.

I wish it would make up it's mind. I keep trying to dye my hair and every time I pick up the bottle, I hear a rumble (The problem is I am terrified of storms (well, loud and overhead ones) and if they get too close I have to drive to my friend's house. I just know I am going to end up round her house with dye running down my face.

  5. been outside and have not heard anything but i am not far from a busy main road. it's so dark here and it is beginning to rain!

btw thanks for the heads up :)

You are welcome. I have only heard the one rumble, but it was definitely thunder. It's a bit pathetic really or maybe I jinxed it with my announcement.

  6. We have got about 2-3cms where I am in Redditch. It's weird, as the snow is coming down, but there is water dripping off my roof. It's as though it is thawing as quick as it is settling. It's getting a bit breezy too.

*off topic* @Phull - You didn't used to be an art teacher in Kettering did you? (My old art teacher was called Peter Hull and he was a wonderful man).

Sorry folks, back on topic again. Kettering and Northamptonshire generally always used to do well for snow, especially in the 80's. I don't think I have ever experienced the same sized dollops of snow since I moved away 20 years ago!

  7. Woo hoo - No work - my place has closed (educational establishment in Redditch). Only announced on the radio just as I was about to set out for a 40 minute walk too work. I am now going for a trot up to the shops for food (any excuse to tromp around in the snow). I am 39 but this reminds me of when I was a kid in the 70's. School closures are still exciting for me.

Not as much snow as I had hoped for here, but the roads are compacted due to now having been gritted - grit shortage.

We have about 3-4 inches here.

  8. I'm in Headless Cross, Redditch and it is coming down fast. Not huge flakes, but the amounts are enough to have covered the road and rooftops. Virtually everything (the little we had on Monday) had melted by this afternoon. I would guess that this dumping has given about half an inch so far. This was not forecast on the local news and a pleasant surprise. Although, it looks like I might be walking to work again tomorrow.

I hope this little surprise is not a trade off for what has been predicted for Thursday!

  9. Yup, Batty Bat and friends have been entertaining us in our garden for years. I love watching them and although I am nevous about the bat in the hair thing I will still stand outside to watch them. About 10 years ago I found a dead bat at the bottom of the garden and I was so upset. I buried it but I did show my step-son first so he could see how amazingly paper thin the wings were (hoping to give him an interest other than computer games, albeit a little macabre).

I went to a bat cave in Mexico about 7 years ago and it was amazing. Full of sleeping bats and smelly bat poo :) I would have loved to have seen them all emerge from the cave at dusk.

  10. Is this lovely heat set to last into the weekend? I am going to leipzig this weekend and would like to know what to pack. I have looked at Wetter.de and yahoo weather etc. Some sites say it will stay sunny all weekend and others say there will be rain/storms on Saturday and Sunday. If anyone can advise I would be grateful (as would be my suitcase) :drinks: Prost
