  1. Some sleet falling around midnight but no sign this morning. From my drive to work, only lying snow was around Birstall retail park so looks like about 200m was the snowline last night. Car took some de-icing though!
  2. Was a bit of sleetiness in the rain when I woke up at 2:30am but other than that it's been raining constantly for hours. Would have been epic if we'd had the cold air in place as promised by the MOD thread this time last week! Don't know if there was any snow earlier in the night but there was nothing on the ground.
  3. Queensbury always seems a good bet and it's a decent sized town within a couple of miles of the motorway network (M62/M606). Its my go to for marginal snow events as its within 5miles of my work but is over 200n higher at about 320m.theres a pub to go to just out of town, just past a village called "Mountain". Also you can keep heading north towards Harrogate to follow the snow! All the above were taken whilst it was raining at the M62 Junction 26
  4. By for now, Michael. You've been a big part of inspiring many of the people who are part of this community today. You were one of the golden age of forecasters and will continue to be. Hope you can still contribute in some way, maybe on the forums occasionally, god knows we could have used your input this past 10 days! Hope your health doesn't affect you too much and I wish you a happy, merry Christmas and joyful new year. All the best, sir. ? ☀
  5. Just to point out re: met office extended forecast, it's my understanding that the wording of the day 16-30 only changes on a Tuesday and Friday so I expect a massive downgrade on that tomorrow based on the, let's be honest, horrendous model output we are now seeing!
  6. Oh dear, when I went to bed it seemed like everything was coming together nicely with the ECM coming on board, now it sounds like everything's flipped the other way but it's OK, according to a certain MOD comedian, it's the GEM and ARPEGE that are the best after all. No doubt there's a 90% certainty that they are right today
  7. I wonder if this morning's improved (apart from UKMO) output has anything to do with the typhoon in the west Pacific, which has disintegrated overnight, and its effect on the MJO? Any experts able to speculate on that?
  8. So in summary up to 5am, UKMO has continued its trend from yesterday towards the horror runs of GFS, but GFS plus GFS control and (to a more limited extent) GEFS mean, as well as the GEM have all shifted to a channel low for Xmas day with an easterly for the majority of the UK. It's certainly keeping me interested, beyond that, who knows!?
  9. I'm not sure I'd agree about consistency from the UKMO, looks to me like a sizeable move away from what we want to see compared to its previous run? I'm far from an expert though.
  10. So wind warnings for the whole region onTuesday and a snow warning for Western hilly parts. Interestingly, however, the snow warning doesn't mention anything about elevation, just says 2-5cm widely in the warning area. Not sure what to make of that as my home is outside the warning (just) but my work at Cleckheaton is in it, but at less than 100m asl. I wish I worked at Queensbury, its only 5 miles from work but over 300m asl so rarely marginal!
  11. The Met Office continue to be absolute banter for snow warnings, today I was on the far west of the snow warning but the far east of the actual snow
  12. Well I've been under the yellows on radar for an hour now but I think the air on the Eastern edge is just too dry for the intensity seen in the videos above so we've mostly had just flurries, although with big fat flakes. Heaviest it got was this... 20211128_131442.mp4
  13. Ugh I'm right on the Eastern border of potential today. Am under the fake radar returns but not sure if the real stuff will get here or not. Still a decent covering in the garden from yesterday but obviously a top up would be nice!
  14. Wild night here with rain and ice pellets turning to snow sometime around 3am. Left a decent covering which is now horribly slushy. No met office warning for snow here, or indeed anywhere in Yorkshire other than the Pennines, despite there being travel chaos with the M1 being closed near Rotherham due to the snow. Its still very blowy out there now and rather cold to boot so I am refusing to get out of bed!
  15. Another met office snow warning fail for West Yorkshire. Baffled as to why the Midlands and South had a warning for the same band of snow that we got, and yet nothing for here? Was nice to see a full on Blizzard at 4am anyway, no idea how deep it was, certainly wasn't going outside to measure it!
  16. WOW! The videos and pictures below are the last hour at my work in Cleckheaton near Bradford from about 4:30pm and Chain Bar roundabout at J26 on the M62. 20210909_173138.mp4 20210909_163247.mp4 20210909_163006.mp4 20210909_162732.mp4
  17. Looking southwest from here, I'd say these are over the peak district.
  18. Now that was the most incredible storm I've seen in years. Woke me up with a direct hit. This is not edited, it was this frequent for about 15 minutes and the rain just before this video was biblical! 20210511_231648_1.mp4
  19. 1.5cm soft hailstones falling here. What a hellish spell of weather for the time of year we've had compared to last year! 20210505_175308.mp4
