  1. I'd quite like a spell of settled weather now, particularly as it's the weekend. I like a good thunderstorm after a hot, sultry day...but end up missing them. Now it's fresher and breezy and for me not welcome, I'll probably get one after the other. Not the best day for outdoor activities, which for most of us on a Saturday in Mid July we'd rather want to be doing.
  2. Aye but the next two days looking at the forecast will make us think we've fast forward to October. A reasonably pleasant July evening at least before the wind and rain arrives tomorrow.
  3. Managed to dodge most of the showers yesterday as they were aligned more to the south.... different story today the conveyor belt is setting up and a steady stream of showers already in progress. Fingers crossed it doesn't completely write the day off. 3rd ashes test at Old Trafford next week looking a bit ropey at present.
  4. Wow probably the loudest crack of thunder I've been under must have been directly overhead. Instant flash and rumble. Belting it down too. Thankfully short lived and sporadic...anything of duration at this intensity would cause severe flooding.
  5. Finally joining the party...Flash of lightning and instant rumble of thunder (another one). Heavens have opened.
  6. This morning's rain/thunder was too far east (no play at headingley, Leeds)...I expect this afternoons/early evening frivolities will be too far west...a familiar story for here. We do have a spell of steady if not heavy rain.
  7. It's raining but not heavy here. Dodged a bullet, the heaviest rain looks to be a little north. Places like Rochdale Todmorden, Burnley, Hebden Bridge will be getting a soaking no doubt. Edit: rain started to pep-up a bit now, not the most inspiring of days.
  8. Sun is trying to break through here after a drizzly wet start but also a few more potent showers now ganging up to the west. So a very mixed day and with a keen fresh breeze. Kind of day when you are between showers in sunshine you can be deceived into thinking it will stay that way. Our survey says!.....'Uh-Uh X'
  9. Drizzly day and it seems to be getting more heavier into the evening. T20 Blast (Roses) Lancs V Yorks won't get much of a look-in. Shame its not over the Pennines in Leeds the drizzle is barely making it over there. Flamin June is struggling to make it to the finish line.
  10. Weather feels a bit sluggish today, gloomy overcast but feeling muggy. If the sun came out it would feel quite potent. Not sure we'll see much of it today. After one of the warmest, driest and sunniest June's on record are we going to be paying off the debt during July. Looking decidedly ropey at least for days 1-10. Front loaded summer?
  11. Popcorn Showers forming just east of the M6 and depositing a little sprinkling here on a keen westerly. Definately a different feel in the air. Transitioned from a few weeks were rain was hard to come by apart from a lucky thunderstorm to it now being a little more readily available. The winds are back.
  12. Showers are zippy now they've switched to a straight westerly you don't have to spend ages watching the radar. Last one put down a short burst of rain but heard no thunder
  13. Yep had a crack of thunder didn't see any lightning & currently under a spell of moderate to at times heavy rain. Its the instant fresher feel I'm most thankful for. Feels like the regions just had a blast of air con.
  14. Appreciable spell of moderate to heavy rain here...appears to be a long narrow wavy band trailing from south to north and its been stuck over my area for a few hours. Garden life about get energised again.
  15. I forgot about the southern peaks gobbling up anything coming in this direction from the south east... might just scrape a bit of much needed rain.
  16. Heard a few rumbles whilst playing snooker at the local club, now back home and rain is sporadically heavy at times (as regards to drop size) but not intense. However could more eastern areas of the region be best favoured this time as lots more gathering to the south heading in a north/north westerly direction. Is this the main zone for this evening's fun and frolics? Time will tell.
  17. Well last nights 2am wake up was a decent light show but hope I get to witness something later today in less of a zombie like half-asleep state. Last Monday I only heard a distant rumble as the lightning show went westwards into Manchester-Cheshire-Merseyside. I'm expecting a good watering for the garden though by the early hours of tomorrow.
  18. Yep awoken by flashes of lighting and crack of thunder but in some ways the loudest thing is the torrential rain its hosing it down. Feels tropical out there. Looking short lived on radar but very impressive while it lasts
  19. It will only dampen the ground I got a little from it now heading your way. Quite surprised to see a little rain but with the ground being so dry and warm it's virtually drying out on impact. A bit of rain affecting Birmingham too, so hopefully encouraging overcast conditions to aid England's swing bowlers today at the Ashes Test.
  20. Jeez just been out to remove some hardy weeds from the lawn, I could barely get the trowel down into the earth and roots. The ground is rock hard. Also the tree in my garden seems to be only showing 50% of it's normal leaves at this stage, maybe heat stress. It's very hard to water a 25ft tree! I guess green nature is dormant at the moment with this dry spell, I'll expect a mass explosion of growth once we get any appreciable rain. Butterflies seem happy.
  21. Odd fluffy patches of cloud interrupting the mostly hot relentless sunshine here today..a more humid feel. Some models sensing the Atlantic will be stepping up a gear?...won't be a surprise, it's practically been in neutral last few weeks with all the blocking. Maybe a more traditional NW/SE split setting in for late June into July? Still more water to go under the bridge (or perhaps not) before we can be sure of any future trend.
  22. Had a dollop of rain on Sunday afternoon but I was a spawning centre yesterday, the cells decided to seed from the west Pennine & peak hills and then grow and unleash their fury down into Cheshire, West Gtr Mcr and Merseyside areas. Thankfully it's a much fresher feeling today but still warm in the sun...we're back in the easterlies.
  23. West really is the best...especially for the pyrotechnics. Nothing here just mockingly dark humid broody skies. A little resurgence to the East so maybe I'll get a few drops from this in the next hour.
  24. I know but a cluster developed between Mossley and Failsworth and I missed that by a stones throw Oh well such is the nature...it's really kicking off around Manchester City area and beyond though so good luck to them. I just want the garden watered! Edit: skies are really dark now overhead...surely I'll get a drenching from this.
  25. Think there's a storm shield in OL as well....seen this happens quite a few times were there weather's playing holy Agamemnon out to the East and as soon as it hits the higher ground of the peaks and Pennines it goes into Timeout mode or has a break...clears my area and then starts spawning again as it drifts downslope and westwards towards Manchester
