  1. It wasn't a northerly dominated month here either it was a cyclonic westerly dominated month if you ask me and the wind kept mins up most of the time so the CET came in just as i would expect it would slightly below average.
  2. 18.4 was the highest in charlwood yesterday according to the BBC, the wait for the first 20C continues.
  3. Yes you are completely right , somerset esp on the coastline though is really in the wrong place for snowfall even in winter, the southwest of england doesn't do well for snow at the best of times, the north, midlands, east anglia and the northeast especially are the best locations for snowfall, i feel northeast scotland, northeast england and east anglia are in the firing line this weekend.
  4. You will see alot more sunshine next week than the past few days so why are you complaining, daytime temps will be near average anyway after monday.
  5. Yes it's a cloudy high so i just don't get the excitement over a few days of mild cloudy rubbish, you're wrong though on that it will dampen the chances of a below average April, cold air arrives very swiftly by saturday and completely dominates the warmer air for the first half of April.
  6. Happy christmas everyone umm i mean easter, easily mistaken with the weather this weekend I think parts of the public who don't follow weather forecasts will be in for a shock this weekend, i bet some have barbies planned B)
  7. Some really exciting weather here as the cold front moving through with very blustery winds indeed and squally showers, what a fantastic easter weekend we have ahead of us, i'm going to be out enjoying the cold wintry conditions thats for sure, head for the hills is my advice B)
  8. We might see 70F+ this April even though i'm going for a below average April even below average Aprils can see the odd warm day here and there like in April 2001 which recorded 70F on the 2nd i think and was a cold month overall with cold northerly winds dominating, remember you can record 70F+ one day then wintry showers the next in the spring, spring is a topsy turvy season.
  9. Haven't got time to read it in detail but what an excellent post <_< Snow lying in April is possible in the UK even in the english midlands though i have to admit the chance of lying snow lasting does rapidly diminish the further into spring you get, top class post. I know new zealands climate is similar to the UK`s but have you had the same amount of warming as we have had since 1988? I dont think you have i think your summers and winters have been cooler than ours since then.
  10. Actually tonights air frost will have the biggest deviation from average in the next week so the cold is colder than the mild is mild.
  11. January messed the winter up, February and December weren't bad, i've enjoyed this winter showing that even mild winters can have some cold spells, nothing that severe apart from severe night frosts mid feb but thats what most like about this country the moderate climate. not too cold or too hot. Nothing went wrong there is no set out plan how a winter will evolve before it starts, nature will take its course and there is nothing we can do about it.
  12. lol were you born this year then.....the sun was the same strength in Feb 2008 as past Februaries.
  13. It's been a wonderful month with plenty of night frosts and mild days with tons of sunshine, it probably will be the best month of this year, very pleasant with the sun not being too strong and with cool dew points giving a lovely chill in the shade out of the sun, i dont think such a pleasant month will be repeated this year as dew points rise and sun gets stronger under such spells after March.
  14. August 1997 was the second hottest August on record, i'm sure most would take a cold June just to get a near record hot July or August.
  15. Yes i agree its a distasteful headline in my opinion too much ramping up mild temps rather than emphasizing the wet weather and flooding in wales/midlands, the public don't care about temps if the weather is as bad as it is, pointless having mild temps if you dont get the weather to go with it, people would rather have a cool and sunny day this time of year, 6C and sun feels much pleasant than rain and overcast weather. A picture of daffodils is inappropriate too and gives the public the impression it's a warm sunny pleasant weekend when it's not.
  16. Give it a chance guys it's just very early Dec, i'm sure the zonality will cool down next week then run out of steam after the 15th as we head towards christmas day. Early to mid Dec is usually the warmest part of the winter on average.
  17. Snow on low ground is rare enough in this country let alone for just one specific date so chances of snow lying on Dec 25th would be extremely low, a white christmas and i mean a proper white christmas with a decent covering of snow on the ground in southern UK was very rare even back before this current warming period. I do think people expect too much out of winter on an island with a maritime climate, saying all that i think the chances of a rather cold and dry christmas are quite good, alot of christmas days have been cold this decade so far.
  18. All the good work in lowering this CET will be undone from the weekend as the CET rockets up again with mins of almost 14C saturday night. Maybe where you are but here it was only 2C in the midlands last night and only a max of 10C/11C yesterday these are below average not above.
  19. Hadley CET provisionally is bang on the 1961-90 average, no significant warmth as of yet though some warmth possible end of the week not for long though if the models are to be believed. http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html
  20. Yes it's way too premature to be calling a warm October esp with the way the runs are heading, warm southerly plumes just aren't arriving to our shores this week is a perfect example, a near average October is the best bet maybe even below average.
  21. And that was after a hot summer, which we haven't had this year so mapgie isn't far wrong virtually no chance of it now.
  22. Yes no 30C this year officially and i'm very confident we won't reach 30.0C+ this September. I think 1947 was the last time we reached 30.0C+ after September 15th.
  23. Any news on whether any stations have officially recorded 30.0C+ this summer? Wasn't the LWC 30.0C+ reading not official. Trevor harley who i'm sure did have the LWC reading in his August review has now got no mention of it at all so maybe there has been no official 30.0C+ this summer at all Here's his review of the summer.
  24. Highest temp this week 24C yesterday, 22C now..... doesn't look like i will record anymore temps over 25C(only had two all year) until next April/May at the earliest. I don't think the odd spot recording just over 25C in the first week of september is anything special, the average max is 20C in the south early september, temps of 25C plus are much more notewortthy in April when the average max is only 12C/13C.
