From the album: North York Moors Weather

October snow 2012. They don't seem overly pleased about it.
  2. 2.7C with sleety hail showers which have really pepped up since midday. Hills are probably white but can't see at moment as it's just a murky mess of fog and grey

Not really, the post was about high temperature records not being broken. Probably it was the warmest hour from 3pm to 4pm of any 4th July at the back of Joe's Store in Big Springs Michigan, but the highest temperature records were not broken
  4. It's almost at Teesside now so here in a few minutes I expect.

It wouldn't be a record breaking high if it didn't exceed the record. But you could spin it differently if you were so minded, and carefully avoid that fact. .

The data is from NOAA and not in dispute. It's all about whether you want to spin record breaking heat and global warming catastrophe or take a rational view by observng that no new high temperature records were broken despite all the media and activist hoo haa.

High temperature records broken in USA during 2012. That's none then.
  8. It is a little cooler already, I think a weak cold front crossed us mid-afternoon and fog has at least lifted onto the hills.
  9. In 1993 we had 3 snow events during October with lying snow on higher ground.
  10. I think it's unlikely the lower ground will see lying snow just yet, but must admit to still harbouring a slight excitement at the first sight of falling snow in the autumn (it soon fades though...).
  11. Too far inland, if anywhere gets briefly white, it it will be the high ground inland from Whitby. That's me then.
  12. In that case 5.1C is likely - my guess.
  13. A long list of cuttings from conveniently forgotten Extreme Events is listed here. http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2012/10/21/defiling-the-past/
  14. Can you really attribute this solely to increased intensity of rainfall though? I'm sure that is part of the reason but for example larger tractors used in wetter ground conditions (because they have 4x4 so don't get stuck) - while towing bigger trailers and muckspreaders - can cause compaction of the subsoil. Also is the rotation and manuring the same as it was 50 years ago? I very much doubt it so soil now is not the same as it was then.
  15. Wintry showers down the east side later.
  16. Probably there'll be an air frost anyway.
  17. Just like yesterday we've had sunny spells in the morning but the afternoon has turned gloomy with what seems to be broken fog bank or low cloud scudding over the moors from the south. It's quite mild though, touching 13C about 1pm.
  18. No because i deliberately avoid facebook, but I don't mind at all.
  19. In Western Europe, the United Kingdom marked its warmest September since 2006 and sixth warmest in the last 100 years, at 1.5°C (2.7°F) above the 1971–2000 average, according to the UK Met Office. Is this right, it was below normal here. I've no idea how you can assert this, various examples have been given of previous unusual and extreme events and periods with more extremes than 'normal' it's usually referred to as 'weather' with no need to invoke some dark forces at work. Every now and then a particular point on the globe is just a bit unlucky.

    Late Afternoon shower

No problem if you want to. I think the size when you save it will be 1024 pixels a bit bigger than it shows in the pop-out here.
