  1. Evening All, there is a strong signal for high pressure to be to our northeast in the next ten days , Question is how much will that effect the Uk? Gfs has been the winner of late ,Ecm has a woeful performance , but a very finely balanced set up.... Being totally Honest , the Atlantic has the lions share of the Uk, but just a little shift from the Scandi High west and there could well be fun and games....Interesting viewing ...... Really the difference between this and this
  2. Thankyou for your reply , but please can you reiterate?Or show us some examples Please
  3. Indeed, I cant see any sustained block to our North East due the incredible cold in northeast America , the jet too strong and washes anything blocky to our northeast far away
  4. Evening ! Well the Gfs has the Victory over the recent output as opposed to the little ecm. The Atlantic has won for now ,
  5. Gfs scores ,Ecm crawls back to the Gfs kicking and screaming
  6. Evening All , there is a fight tonight between the to foes ecm and gfs but who makes any sense? None really but I think gfs is the winner?
  7. Evening All , Ive seen a few posts on here saying that computer model outputs have not improved over the years , yes they have generally in short term but blocking situations such as the one coming up as far as Im concerned they have not But on to the models themselves ecm and gfs agree short term, after that gfs is not interested in bitter winter whilst ecm prolongs the cold into the ten day period. Caution from the ecm viewing , to be honest I think the gfs is more correct , but as I said a few posts ago , how many times have the easterlies delivered memorable cold and snowy winters in the last 50 years ? I think peoples view on bitter easterlies are way to high , Im going to do a post in the next few weeks to show how rare Easterlies deliver.....But when they do deliver , my God, there the Holy Grail of great and rare winters in the Uk. Meanwhile some nasty stormy weather to endure in the next 24 hrs
  8. Evening All Well ,Well Well, another cold spell looking likely by the weekend , different synoptic situation from the previous few snowy periods , but very interesting non the less. No point looking at precip charts or snow charts at this stage , but high pressure over Svalbard looks like giving the uk__ A REAL FEEL OF WINTER
  9. Evening, to much attention to the ECM at the later stages, how precious is a real true Scandinavian high ,how many times as the Scandinavian high produced the goods in the last thirty years Answers on a postcard please....
  10. Heavy snow falling over fish hill near Evesham just over a thousand feet above sea level at the top of the Cotswold hills
  11. Well perhaps your glass is half full or half empty
  12. Evening ! If I was to sum up the models tonight headlines would be " Cold Zonal " weather from Christmas onwards . No detail in the forecast , but expect some stormy weather at times but also cold enough for snow ,well at least for some even down south , be glad for you coldies that the synoptics look great for just about everything Winter has to offer ...Watch This Space....
  13. Hi good post but don't think I'm not picking here but using the word cool at this time of year is the wrong terminology. It's either very mild ,mild cold or very cold or freezing .You can have temperatures of ten Celsius in the south of the UK which seems it deams it mild but add the wind factor and it will feel cold not cool. Anyway we look to be entering a stormy spell of weather as you rightly said with spells of milder and colder weather from Christmas to the new year
  14. Hello! After the benign conditions before Christmas things have not changed on recent output with a very strong jet stream coming out of North America because of some extreme cold over there interacting with the sub tropical high pressure further further south in the North Atlantic Ie The Azores High! There is no point at this moment looking at detail , but expect the unexpected , Loads of weather coming to us via a turbulent Jet stream. Watch This Space ...
  15. Evening! Tonights gfs is not without interest for Christmas day albeit a long way off ! If the chart Ive posted tonight comes very close some people will see a White Christmas , especially with some elevation ,and it does not have to be that cold to snow! After that well both models gfs and ecm pump up the jet stream between xmzs and new year which has been on the model output for some days now, and nothing showing anything really mild.....I will follow with interest
  16. Evening All ! Hope you have had a great weekend , Im really glad that the jet stream has gone north this week as it allows Christmas activities to go forward with out and problems from the weather well apart from some fog for some..... The jet stream really kicks in by around Christmas day bring wet and windy weather cold enough for snow over higher ground so a White Christmas for some although not many , after that the jet stream fires up to bring us some stormy weather between Christmas and new year
  17. Evening All! So a milder spell of weather coming up, after this weekend , gfs and ecm hint of a change by Christmas , with a change to more stormy conditions with a mix of cold and mild
  18. Nineties winters done nothing for me here , eighties was a lot better
  19. Evening All... Cant help thinking that the ecm is far to progressive with the Atlantic return, gfs is a coldies friend ,ecm gives the coldies a Cold Shoulder
  20. A 62/63 winter so I'm told was the coldest for 240 years which really was very freaky. There are lots of variations of winter for the UK but you can get a damn good winter without the severity of that infamous winter. As far as I'm concerned the winter has started on a high note for me......can it continue , looks very interesting viewing in the days ahead
  21. Indeed ,just go back a few days and the models have really underplayed this cold snowy spell for southern parts of the UK ,we could see a minus 14c for the Midlands over the snow Fields by Tuesday morning something even when viewing the upcoming cold spell which I really never expected, this cold spell for me has been told to go round to some Friends for beans on toast and getting a banquet instead
  22. I think I will call this a proper old fashioned snowstorm ,gusty winds heavy snow what more could a snow junkie want on a Sunday morning
