  1. Looking at this mornings charts, Gaston could actually be of help for your holiday, riding the jet to the North of the U.K. which allows high pressure to build from the South. Along way off mind but looking ok for now. Back home in North Yorkshire, may aswell stay in bed all day, forecast 16c Max and cloudy/murky

    Inversion

    From the album: SNOW

Cool summers evening led to an inversion and fog/mist settling in the valley bottoms.
  3. A day of contrast today with a sunny morning and then now we have an almighty deluge. The temp fell to 8.9c this morning and there was a lovely inversion with fog/mist in the valleys but it quickly warmed up with the max temp being 20.4c at 11.30am. Cq2LVnJWAAAeRHh.jpg-large
  4. We had a shocking 35mm here yesterday! Very much needed though Looking forward to a chilly evening tonight after a few mild nights, could see 8/9c overnight which will make sleeping alot easier and feel much fresher in the morning. Currently 19c, gentle breeze and lots of sunshine, perfect!
  5. Yes I understand that Nick, I was merely pointing out that the above average theme for the summer so far is not countrywide.
  6. I am outside of the CET zone so don't tend to take much notice of it, it is quite often a couple of degrees higher than my location for obvious reasons. As for here well if we are comparing against the 81-10 average. June - 13.1c (-0.4c) July - 15.8c (+0.0c) August - 15.7c so far (+0.2c) Looking at my statistics and then hearing from Nick that the summer may be be in the top 10 warmest I sometimes wonder if I live in a different country.
  7. After the temp being 21.4c at midnight surprisingly we dropped to 15.2c this morning, wasn't expecting it to get below 16/17c. Currently Sunny and 17c and another nice warm summers day coming up although temps 5-6 degree cooler than yesterday.
  8. We managed 27c here today, toasty! Although it's currently down to a chilly 20c which is the warmest night for a good few years in the part of country.
  9. Yes we had what would be classed as a warm night here with a low of 15.0c, tonight looks even warmer still with temp possibly not dropping below 16/17c.
  10. Aye that chart to me is a corker, just what I'm after as we head into the cool down period.
  11. Thanks for those kind words! Did you know Maud and Eric who still run the village shop? I visit her often and love hearing Mauds tales of winters gone by when they were cut off/stranded for days, I actually helped her deliver some post in Dec 10 as the postman couldnt get into the village. I've just turned 26 and me and my fiancee are almost ready to buy, we have our heart set on the Wolds, Thixendale would be the dream, but there are many other beautiful villages in the area. I've attached some more photos from Thixendale in early Dec 2010, this time for you as it includes the cricket pitch and the pub. Thanks again, Vizzy
  12. Awesome! The reason we went to Thixendale on this day is to sledge on the bank next to the cricket pitch behind the cross keys. Most hills in the area there is a fence at the bottom but as its a cricket pitch you don't have to worry about hitting anything and fly down like a maniac. I remember we even went down the bank on a canoe this day. Hoping to buy a house in this village one day, it has a facisnating microclimate and would love to build up years of data.

  15. Yes your right, it's looking over towards Hovingham/Slingsby area. Directly north to south on the attached picture.
  16. Fascinating, is that the Wolds in the distance? If so then I'm guessing my house is somewhere between you and the Wolds in this picture.

    Thixendale Snow

    From the album: SNOW

Thixendale is one of the most remote villages in the Yorkshire Wolds, -19c occurred on a basic weather station in the village in early Dec 2010.

  20. From the album: SNOW

Epic walls of snow lined most roads in the Yorkshire Wolds as local farmers tried to keep the roads open.

  23. I agree Nick, we had a low of 8c this morning and a high of 21c this afternoon. Light breeze and clear blue skies, pretty damn perfect.
  24. Yes temp fell to 8c last night here in the valley. A few places in the Moors and Dales reached 5c early this morning with lots of fog/mist patches around. Autumn is coming
  25. A cool cloudy start to the day. 13.3c after an overnight low of 12.4c.
