  1. Another good thing about ICON is its looking like sending the coldest air into Scandinavia first instead of directly to us via the Norwegian Sea (as per EC). This would mean once the winds switch to NE they would be less sea modification therefor colder 850hpa temps. Something to keep an eye over the next few runs. Image below to show ideal angle of attack.
  2. ICON 6z only goes out to 120hrs but you can see the PV lobe over the pole primed to head towards Scandinavia. This lobe holds the intense cold air we hope to eventually tap into as the the high to our north moves NW and the cold air is ushered SW towards Blighty as per this mornings EC.
  3. A quick look at the GEFS for my location in North Yorkshire. Dropping below average on Friday for the foreseeable with increasing risk of snow. No sign of any deep cold (sub -10 850s) but a good position to be in as we head into the first part of winter.
  4. Bah hell she’s ruddy slow this morning, out to 24hrs at 6.42. Better be worth the wait
  5. EC on strike this morning? No sign of it rolling out on Meteociel just yet.
  6. Some impressive overnight minimum temperatures across the Highlands this morning, the coldest of the season so far on the amateur network.
  7. Managed 2.3°C on Tuesday here. Lowest temperature I’ve recorded in September since I moved her in 2016. Some spots down in Kent as low as -1.5°C this morning it would seem. Impressive for so far south after what’s been such a hot summer.
  8. Good timing to go back to Cheshire! Vile on the North Sea coast this morning with heavy showers moving in off the North Sea onto the Moors pushed in on a chilly NNE breeze.
  9. Sorry should of stated these are all amateur stations. Heres a good map showing all stations that fell below freezing across the UK. Image courtesy of Highland Weather on FB.
  10. Coldest places across the UK overnight. Data source: Live Temperatures MEOPHAMWEATHER.CO.UK
  11. Shap is forecast 1c tonight according to the Met Office so chance of the first air frost of the Autumn on an official Met Office station. Problem is air frosts have occurred in the UK in all the summer months so its working out the point of first/last frost from the last cold season and the upcoming one.
  12. Shame its not January with sub -8c 850hpa temps as it would be snow showers galore from this set up away from the immediate coast!
  13. My closest frost hollow station to Shap fell to 3.3c this morning around 2am. Ravenseat sits at 388m asl in a bowl in Upper Swaledale (Yorkshire Dales) and is one of the coldest amateur stations in the UK. You can see in below image how the wind picking up scuppered any chance of a frost.
  14. Looks like my frost hollow stations across North Yorkshire will get a good workout later this week. Good chance we may see the first air frost since May. No air frosts were recorded on my network this summer but these were the lowest temps for each month. June: 1.1c Keld July: 2.9c Ravenseat August: 1.9c Ravenseat
  15. Evening all just been catching up on posts from last few days. Wednesdays storm missed here @Wold Topper but only a few miles to the east so put on one hell of a show. Glad your enjoying this side of the Pennines @East Lancs Rain, the weather on the east coast can be quite benign with small diurnal temperature changes, little hot weather and lack of frost/snow but you only have to come a few miles inland for that to change.
  16. Im in Goathland on Monday. Managed to dodge the heavy showers here with some thunderstorms to our North around mid afternoon. A whopping 0.2mm recorded through the gauge.
  17. Was up at Beacon Farm this morning in Sneaton for an ice cream, just about warm enough for an ice cream to be acceptable. Lunch at Ruswarp before heading back to base via Glaisdale, not a bad day if you could get out of that keen NE wind.
  18. Been at a family do down Selby way this aft. Checked forecast it said cloudy so didnt bother wi shorts. Bi eck that worra mistake was red hot all afternoon wi no clouds.
  19. Hell ended up being a grand ord day up at Egton Show this afternoon after it chucked it down in't morning. Working down at Nafferton near Driffield in morning so wonder if il catch some of that heavy rain set to affect eastern areas. Really hope East Yorkshire gets a fair ord dumping like, bloody needs it!
