Hellfire it’s plummeting out there tonight, already -5.8°C. Met office forecasting a low of -4°C tonight so that’s already gone to pot.

I'm originally fae Carrbridge. If you love snaw, it has it's own wee microclimate. Often you are buried there, then when you get to Aviemore there's noticeably less. On to Kingussie and there's none!
More exposed to the North, but also to the west due to the Dulnain valley extending that direction while Aviemore maybe.
I can heartily recommend the Cairn Hotel in Carrbridge for a pint, pub lunch and game of pool.
The wee dug in front there had a problem ball joint on the back leg when young - kept dislocating. So they removed the ball as she's got 4 legs and the muscle just develops to cope without. But because she could not put normal full weight on it, she developed her own walk where she puts both paws on one side forward, then the same with the other. Sort of like when we climb a latter, but she does it on the level. Ergo has a funny wee waddle. Bless.
Been to Cairn Hotel few years back when I met up with me pal Lee from Highland Weather. I actually called into Carrbridge today on way back while bairn wer napping to take a photo of his house as he’s currently in Australia and not back till this Saturday.

Todays max was -1.9°C and already down at -3.0°C

I’ve been coming to Scotland on and off in winter since 2013 but never had a proper snowy week, had the odd bit here n there but this week I’ve hit the jackpot. I’m quite lucky that where I live and work in North Yorkshire I see quite a lot of snow every winter but true winter conditions in the Highlands has always been the holy grail for me.

Just been out for a drive to Newtonmore as only gone and bloody forgot toothpaste. Some light flurries kicking about but mainly dry and cloudy.
Back in Dalwhinnie it’s -1.3°C with a dew of -5.0°C, few showers about but not sure they will make it over the Monadhliath mountains before fizzling out.
Fire is roaring, cans of Stella are flowing and feet up watching the Masters snooker, cracking start to holiday.- 19

Bit of a bodge job as don’t think the cottage owners would have appreciated me drilling a bracket into their swing so cable ties it is. All up and running on weather underground here’s the link.

A quick look at the shower distribution over the next 24 hours. Looks like streamers setting up and they moving around a bit, NMM model does show them making good progress inland so will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Yes it had moved further north compared to recent runs.
Worth noting there is also an area of low pressure off the NE coast at 96 hours. Possible polar low with such cold air and low thicknesses?

ECM has the small area of low pressure moving through the central belt on Tuesday. Some places could see a fair dumping if the track stays the same.

We have went from-6 to -2 and no ice days now , aw well mabye next time
I think the one of the issues for low minimas this week is the wind doesn’t look like it will let up. Ideally you’d want light winds under slack flow with snow cover on ground which doesn’t look likely as it stands.

Have notice the met office temps seem to be getting watered down in our area , just general winter fair.
Yes Dalwhinnie now showing -9 instead of -12c. Almost cancelled the holiday when I saw that! The snow symbols always seem to become less and less. Thankfully the computer generated apps are useless in a convective flow from experience from back home with snow showers moving off the North Sea.

Further to my above post the 6z NMM is out and shows a similar track to the 0z.
Possibly too far south for me in Dalwhinnie but could go either way.
Worth noting that the UKM model has this feature quite a bit further south in northern England.

Re Tuesday feature it’s now within the range of some of the Hi Res models. The NMM 0.05° goes out to 72 hours so just about picking up on precip for Tuesday.
The 6z is due out shortly so will see if any north/south adjustments are made.
The NMM also has the 2k resolution model which goes to 36 hours and you can zoom right into Scotland. At 32 hours you can see the convective streams of showers for tomorrow afternoon across northern areas.

Met Office have upgraded the temps for here the next couple of nights now going for -13°C. Heck not experienced that since February 2021.
