  1. SunnyG 30c + above normal is still 30c above normal no matter what context or whatever way you want to spin it.
  2. So it's likely that the uk Jan record was broken 3 times yesterday? 19.2c then 19.6c and then 19.9c
  3. @Weather Enthusiast91 Concern would be the main thing for me not the boredom aspect.
  4. A new yr and already warmth records are falling. Another yr that little bit closer to calamity bit by bit by bit.
  5. @Weather-history it's not that what happens in September has an effect on winter. But to me a warm September is a SIGN that the months afterwards will be likely warmer then average . Its a sign that winter will be predisposed to warmer then average weather
  6. Another case of a warm September followed by a crap winter. Yet another one. Despite any ramping ,teleconnections ,seasonal models etc the warm September curse has beaten them all. Of course its just part of the bigger picture that is climate change.
  7. 100% getting milder. How anyone could think they are getting colder is either dillusional or in denial.
  8. It does seem the cold in the US gets cut off just as quickly as ours which is one good thing.
  9. It would be perfect if we get a hp spell with frosts and chilly days. Dry out the ground a bit and reduce the ground temperatures. Then to be followed by a proper cold spell with snow. Once the hp doesn't sink, hopefully we can get this type of scenario which to me is a holy grail. Frosty weather followed by snow.
  10. Well Xmas eve now. 12.5c here atm, 1.15 am. As bloody unseasonal as it can be. Pure muck.
  11. Jan 1958 such a big turn around in only 4 days. Imagine that happening nowadays. From high pressure centred to our southwest to bang full on northerly. While there still can be turn arounds of course they don't seem to be as often or as quick as before .
  12. I agree. The weather this week would have likely been much colder then the muck we are getting atm. That cold air to our north would have pushed south. Nowadays stubborn hp to our south is like a bloody wall in the path of cold trying to reach us ( of course there can be other factors too ) but this week has been a perfect illustration of that imo.
  13. New years eve night 2009. In a pub with a group of friends. Started snowing about an hr before midnight lasted an hr or 2. It was the first snowfall of that winter here. Perfect timing for ringing in the new yr. The snow stayed on the ground for the following 10 days or so.
  14. I was born in 73 , so growing up in the winters of 77 -87 , i thought cold spells most or every winter was normal. Then the late 80s disabused me of that notion.
  15. I'd probably take that if offered. Anything is better then the current muck atm . As I type damp, cloudy and 13c. Feels like a Dec 2015 day today.
  16. What looks like happening next week reminds me a bit of around the 20th Dec 91. Briefly cold for a day or 2. Think that was the only time I saw a few snow showers that winter.
  17. Would the 850hpa level be down a few hundred metres. About 1200m instead of around the more normal 1500m?
  18. One good thing I suppose is decent cold for the Arctic. IF we could tap into that further down the line....at some stage, any northerly would be potent one would imagine?
  19. Perhaps a good call by Mountain Shadow this morning. Seems to be the way the Ecm is heading on this evenings run. Definitely a better Ecm in the later frames then this morning.
