  1. Like anything where snow is concerned it depends on your location. Been looking at the radar today and the showers/ppn are hitting the usual areas in an easterly flow. Where's there are gaps in the higher hills and where the showers have enough oomph in them some areas will get snow. Unfortunately there are those that will miss out on it all, but I'd have thought being in Blackburn you'd be in a far better position than those 10/15 miles to your west. If it means we have 2 weeks here of cold cloudy dry days then that's pretty normal for this set up. It's only frustrating if you are expecting 30cm of snow from this set up if you are sitting on Blackpool beach or similar ... its not going to happen.
  2. Wasn't really paying much attention to the amount of rain we got yesterday. The garden is still standing in water this morning, I've also noticed there were numerous roads locally that were flooded by mid afternoon yesterday. Can only assume its a topping up process and the groundwater levels must be really high. So yes you are right, maybe this dry week or 2 is coming at the right time. At least I can get out for a good walk again today
  3. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j Keep saying ... nothing unusual about this at all for those of us here.
  4. Still on for my chippy tea here. Amazing how quickly the rain stopped when the cold air moved in.
  5. Finally dried up here. Been raining almost all day. Enjoy your snow those in the favoured spots.
  6. Bit of an error there on my part. Just started chucking it down again. No sign of anything remotely wintry here No idea why the random quote either
  7. Cold air must be getting closer here. Rain stopping and it's starting to get a bit brighter.
  8. Not a pleasant day at all here. Steady rain cold wind and dull. Glad I went for a walk yesterday. Even the cat won't go out
  9. Interesting looking at those gem charts. PPN readily moving west for those in the south of the region. Note the drier spots towards the coast further north. Fairly typical of this set up.
  10. I'm going to stick up for Preston here .... there's plenty good about the place - just been voted the best place to live in the NW (not for snow obviously ) and we are near plenty of motorways so you can make a sharp exit if you really dislike it !
  11. Game over ...... I've just seen sledges for sale at a local garage they've jinxed it for everyone !!
  12. No one is suggesting the E of the region doesn't stand a good chance of seeing snow. I've said before this thread could do with being split into W of the M6 and E of the M6 during winter. You'll see the differences over the weekend and why for those to the west for snow, an easterly is nothing to get excited about. The 2018 "beast" gave nothing here, whilst places to the south (chorley/euxton) and even west (southport/tarleton) of here got plastered. Thats from my personal experience
  13. Still yet to see anything other than dry and cold for here. All the forecasts i've seen predict no ppn for here, and even the fantasy snow depth charts now showing the same. Standard easterly conditions for here IMO.
  14. Chris. Not the case. Very rarely if ever does ppn from the east reach here let alone leave a covering. Blackburn maybe as you are 10 miles further east but not here.
  15. You'd take the proper snow, but we never get snow from an easterly here just cold and dry whilst we see the reports of chaos and a countrywide blanket of snow ..... apart from this one little oasis of green
  16. You've got to have something moist (it's that word again) with your chips. Gravy, mushy peas, curry sauce, or all 3. Just chips don't cut it.
  17. Those charts although they look nice suggest nothing other than dry cold and clear. Standard easterly conditions for here.
  18. Surprise covering at home this morning. Was turning to a bit of a slushy mess as i left for work. Highways were still ploughing the outside lane of the M6 between Preston and Garstang. Snow cleared around the Galgate area and picked up again N of Lancaster. Raining here atm near Carnforth. Looking forward to some cold dry days and nights over the next few days once the winds turn to the East. 6th day with snow this winter here. More than all of the last 3 combined.
  19. Pretty accurate showing the hole in the ppn over Preston. What normally happens with an e/se. I'd expect the met rainfall estimates to be changed over the next 36 hrs as well. For here at least.
