  1. If I remember correctly it was around 02:00 ish.

The best thing I have ever seen on nights has to have been an all night meteor shower. It was 1998 I think. Once I saw one I went to a high point to look for them and they kept on coming. there was that many that I went back inside and put the plant cctv cameras pointing in their direction to save me from freezing outside.

As I said, nights can be hard but seeing sights like that is fantastic.

Also seeing sunrise in midsummer is nice as well.

  2. I saw them last night while on nightshift. It is easy for us to spot them at work , My Plant is orientated North to South. So when I came outside in the early hours and looked North they were very apparently noctilucent.

The first time I saw them i thought it was dawn breaking. Then it occured to me that dawn doesn't break in the North.

Nightshifts can be very hard to get used to but seeing things most people never get to see is great.

  3. Can anyone answer what might be an obvious question?  The Sun is a big nuclear reaction. It has shone for billions of years because it is a nuclear reactor and this doesn't use much fuel. However every 5 days on average there is a CME ( Coronal mass ejection). According to Wiki t he average mass is 1.6×1012kg of material ejected.

How can this be? I wouldn't know how to do the maths but why hasn't the Sun used up all of its mass many millions of years ago?

     Brian.

  4. They'll be expanding southwards from London rather than migrating north for spring. Get used to the idea of a new form or dawn chorus.

I always see them first at the riding stables my kids go to in South Manchester.I saw 3 last saturday afternoon 12th April.Last year they arrived very early on 29th March.A sure sign of Summer.Something else I have noticed the last couple of years is that Skylarks are making a comeback. They make a lovely constant twittering sound and remind me of my youth.
