  1. Pointe du Raz has recently recorded a gust of 93mph ... http://www.meteociel.com/
  2. Check out the live weather data feed from the Jersey Met site paying particular attention to the wind speed at St Helier Harbour. They're expecting the worst of Angus between 23:00 and 03:00, a very similar time of impact to the 87 affair which caused unprecedented damage here. That said, the 87 storm blew from a direct southerly direction whereas the worst of Angus is expected to be from the SW which will potentially be our saving grace due to the islands geographical representation including terrain and physical factors of the environment. http://www.gov.je/Weather/Pages/Live-Weather-data.aspx
  3. Evening all Bracing ourselves here in the C.I. as Jersey Met have just issued an upgraded red warning ... http://www.gov.je/Weather/Pages/warnings.aspx
  4. Confirmed ... and becoming increasingly electrified ...
  5. Warning level red just issued for the extreme North of our shipping area http://www.gov.je/Weather/Pages/warnings.aspx
  6. There it is, right there - 146kph
  7. Wind really starting to pick up down here now. I've just read an unconfirmed report of a gust to 91mph in Camaret, Brittany at 22:00 ... can someone please verify?
  8. Morning all Wild down here today with this updated warning from our local met dept making concerning reading, especially due to the duration of the storm with NW gales expected for 12 hours, peaking between 12 and 3 pm ...
  9. Morning all (after a very late night!) Does anyone know where we could find or does anyone have the data of the average lightning strike rate for Jersey's storm between 23:30 last night and 02:30 this morning? It would be interesting to find out as the reality was exceptional to say the least Here's to round 2 predicted for later today and tonight Oh, and here's a picture by Nick Venton (shared on his facebook page) taken from Noirmont Point (where we were) as the storm approached late last night
  10. A picture taken about an hour or so ago by local photographer Jose Pires along our South coast looking WSW. Incidentally, he took this shot from inside a car - probably a wise move
  11. Here's a couple of links for you http://www.watersplashjersey.com/surf/splash-cam.aspx http://www.gov.je/Weather/Pages/webcam.aspx
  12. This is incredible. It's been a long time since we've witnessed lightning as frequent and intense as this. Perhaps made more so by the fact we're parked at a place called Noirmont Point which is in the direct firing line of the cell currently just to our SW. Absolutely amazing display from Mother Nature!
  13. Live report and synoptic analogy from Jersey's SW Coast summed up in one word ... explosive!
  14. Hi all A nice link to watch the cells develop over northern France, hopefully with our name on http://www.gov.je/Weather/Pages/Radar.aspx
  15. Hi all Just back home from work with my eyes firmly trained on the radar and satellite as thundery showers / storms are expected to develop in our area overnight. The current storm over Biscay appears to be heading in a NNE direction and will probably miss us but as with all developing situations, anything can quite literally happen I'll also be cheering on our England ladies tonight in their epic semi-final against Japan so hopefully we'll see some flashes of brilliance from our team together with some thunderous goals ... I'll see myself out
  16. Check this public radar link from Jersey Met ... http://www.gov.je/Weather/Pages/Radar.aspx
  17. Some very active cells moving this way from our SE with a moderate to heavy localized downpour just witnessed in the SE of the island. So localized in fact, the west of the island remained dry! Lots of thunder heard from my current location with recent sferics showing up on the NE of the island. Exciting times for us Tstorm lovers. It could be an interesting 24 hours
  18. My apologies if this has already been mentioned but with some of the highest tides of the year expected late next week coupled with the low pressure modeled at present on both ECM and GFS (I haven't seen UKMO's take on possible events yet), things could get very interesting along South and West facing coasts. As ever, more runs are needed before FI may potentially become a harsh reality.
  19. Cheers iowpompeylee ... next shower incoming ... temp down to 1.8C. If only we could tap into those larger looking echoes to our West. All that snow going to waste, not wanting to sound greedy or anything
  20. Just had our first snow shower of the evening with plenty more to come by the looks of things. Temperature down to 3.1 and falling steadily. Things are pretty lively out there
  21. More sleet and snow showers forecast here for tomorrow afternoon and evening. All eyes to the radar - well, at least my pair
  22. We have a potent snow streamer setting up shop here with snow falling for the last hour or so, moderate to heavy. Accumulations are very small at this time but as the temperature drops things could get interesting later this evening. And I note from the radar there's plenty more upstream for us too, not wanting to sound greedy or anything
  23. Evening all Looking at the latest radar images, we could have an interesting night here in Jersey. Our local Met are still going for isolated sleet or snow showers but there's nothing isolated about developments in the channel right now Stay safe peeps
