  1. Looking at the infra-red satellite image doesn't show up the precipitation to well considering whats sitting above us right now. https://en.sat24.com/en/eu ©Netweather 5min radar.
  2. The Fa Vase..We won that last year..South Shields FC 4-0 Cleethorpe Town, Was a great day down Wembley.. We beat em yesterday aswell 2-0 although I didnt go as I thought it might have been called off like most games have this late winter early spring..Loads of backlogged games, luckily we've got a strong squad...
  3. Marske's ground is up on a hill and very exposed.I went there 2 yrs ago in late July (extra preliminary FA cup round) and it was a smashing day albeit a tad windy. They beat us aswell, canny team Marske. Ignore all that Seabreeze86, should read posts correctly..I see its Stocktons ground your going too..!! doh..(its been a very long day..!!)
  4. Although the 850hpa temps are GFS generated on the radar it does show those -12 850's getting closer..
  5. Serious amounts of rain for sure, Ive now 2 ponds in my unkempt garden, ( nature reserve as i like to call it)..!! The mice that live in the pile of wood i have stacked in my garden will have to move to higher ground if this persists, luckily they still have a few 'floors' to move up to..!! 24hr totals.
  6. ICON 06z has the cold in by noon Friday and by Saturday lunch time the whole country is entrenched in deep cold.

  8. Chuckin' it doon here..!! Smallest, finest grauple I think Ive ever seen, thought there was a fire, looked like smoke at times swirling around the lampost.!! 5 minutes and its over...
  9. I really can't see any problem with the Chief Forecasters assessment in the detail Nick. This is from tonight's yellow warning for Northumberland. Northumberland Chief Forecaster's assessment Frequent snow showers are likely to continue feeding in from the North Sea on a very cold easterly wind. Due to the nature of showers, some places are expected to receive an additional 5-10 cm of snow per day, whereas other places nearby may only receive small amounts. Strong winds will lead to severe drifting of lying snow in places, as well as a severe wind chill, although these are expected to begin to ease through Friday night. This is an update to remove much of both southwest Scotland and northeast England where snow showers have largely died out. This is exactly what occurred here over the last few days, only 5-6 mile North of my location had streamer after streamer for 4-6hrs as here got a few flurries at best..but on other occasions this location fared better than other areas a few mile away.. Damned if they do damned if they don't. Totally agree with you on the lack of understanding that most people have of the dangers traveling in adverse weather. Ive long claimed that common sense should be replaced with un-common sense as there seems to be quite a shortage of it going around..!!
  10. My mates from Rothbury and showed me photos and video from around there and the drifts are pretty impressive.. The A1 is open as he's just drove down earlier and said most roads are now passable.. Providing we dont get hammered tonight I think going North would guarantee you will see a better show than the Dales..
  11. Snowing here in South Shields.. Heaviest its been all day( 3/10) not great but its a start and we've had numerous light snow/grauple today..
  12. High up cirrus clouds spilling out of the Lp helped in holding back any meaningful convection.Today's parameters for convective showers was low with little CAPE and poor lapse rates..the cumulus stratus didnt help either with a continuous blanket streaming out of Denmark..
  13. Incredible scenes from County Kildare Ireland. https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/storm-emma/towns-on-lockdown-as-storm-emma-dumps-huge-amounts-of-snow-in-east-leinster-36662157.html
  14. Is that a snowstorm or the winds whipping up the snow?
  15. 4℃ and cold rain...you need to go and see a doctor, I fear your losing ya mind SS..
  16. The Americans call it soft hail so I think thats where the confusion may come, they mustn't like the Germans as Ive just found out its possible origin.. Did You Know? The word graupel is Germanic in origin; it is the diminutive of Graupe, meaning "pearl barley." According to etymologists, there does seem to be a grain of truth in the assumption that the word grew from the Slavic word krupa, which has the same meaning. Graupel was first seen in an 1889 weather report and has been whirling around in the meteorology field ever since to describe "pellets of snow" or "soft hail" (the latter phrase is an actual synonym of graupel).
  17. Dont mean to be pedantic Doc, but technically it wont be hail falling but graupel. Hail is a frozen water droplet as graupel is super-cooled liquid on a snowflake.
  18. Showers intensifying, and 'streamers developing further South to affect more of our region..Already had a couple 'hefty" showers. About an hour ago. And now. Blizzard here now..!
  19. Last shower to hit here was over 2hrs ago.... Not much incoming anytime soon either..gonna jump in the shower..see how things look after..I'm hopeful I'll join the party again..really windy in this clear slot..!!
  20. Wish I could say the same..Moon looks nice though..
  21. Definitely intensifying from this To this in half an hour.
  22. Will catch part of it ( I can see it coming in) Not very wide and as J-man mentioned the direction does have a slight ENE. 700hpa winds. Its here Now P-M and its a white-out..!!
  23. There's less CAPE available further out at sea but as they approach closer to the shore there's a bit more to tap into..Waters are slightly warmer closer to the shore so will aid convection. This usually falls off quickly during the summer months but with relatively warm seas during the winter this can continue well into the night.
  24. Shower after shower, depositing quite a bit everytime..Had to go to the shop in a blizzard, felt like i was fifteen again..although I was feelin the cold more than back then..!!
