If the jet stream stays south for the summer period then we can hopefully see some pretty good convective weather!
Last September had 2 memorable thunderstorms! One of them lasted 2 hours and was the result of slow moving showers that came from the west. There was no heat involved!
I agree, heat is not required. Just an unstable airmass + solar heating. I dislike how people assume we need a sweltering southerly and a plume. Not that a plume has actually delivered here for as long as I can remember!
2007 & 2009 were both cracking years here for convection and storms.
