  1. Five minute snow shower here just outside Loughborough. That was quite unexpected.
  2. Well the net result of 5 hours of fine snow and temperatures slightly above freezing is less snow than we started with this morning!
  3. Interesting. In Quorn 10 miles north of Leicester the paths are clear, the snow in my garden has all but melted and there's a couple of centimetres of snow in the park. The falling precipitation this morning has amounted to nothing except wet roads. We did however have the excitement yesterday of a female presenter giving the national travel situation on BBC Breakfast news from the local park.
  4. I've only just noticed that the Midlands no longer has a METO weather warning. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_warnings.html Phew that was close - I was beginning to think that I might actually see more than one centimetre of snow for the first time this winter but it seems not.
  5. Well Tuesday looks confusing - just as well I've learnt to take these things with a pinch of salt: BBC Weather for East Midlands Airport 9 degrees and raining: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/2242 Meanwhile if I put Nottingham (just a 20 minute drive away) into the BBC Weather I get 5 degrees rain. But if I choose to be stupid enough to believe this morning's teletext 5 day forecast, Nottingham for Tuesday is showing heavy snow and 1 degree. Then the Met Office for Tuesday also shows Derby at 9 degrees but Worksop (about 35 miles away) as 4 degrees: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/em/em_forecast_temp.html Think I'll just stick my head out of the window.
  6. It seems hilarious when people compare this to 1963 - the snow stayed around until the beginning of March. I realise that some people have had heavy falls and there have of course been low temperatures but for my locality near Loughborough we have had very little snow. So not all that memorable I'm afraid.
  7. Continuous light fall since about 6.30 here near Loughborough.
  8. You sent that to the METO? Oh dear I feel embarrassed for you, I really do.
  9. Well I'm 8 miles north of Leicester and all we've had is a slight dusting with tiny flakes with nothing settling on the wet pavements and according to this Leicester's the same: http://www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/content/webcams/st_margarets_way_burleys_way_webcam.shtml And this is even worse!!: http://www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/content/webcams/lubbesthorpe_way_osiers_bridge_webcam.shtml
  10. Just driven 80 miles from North Lincolnshire through Nottinghamshire to Leicestershire. For three-quarters of the way it was rain and sleet with the odd short burst of wet snow. Nothing really amounting to much and very little settling due to the temperature (admittedly from a car thermometer) of around 2 degrees. So basically a continuation of the marginal weather we've had since just before Christmas. Looks like this is going to be a winter that promises much but just fails to deliver.
  11. No, not a joke - I've seen no snow so far (apart from a small dusting) and temperatures are what I would expect around this time of the year. I know some have had a brief spell of spell of heavy snow but I'm afraid I don't really understand all the excitement. For me an unremarkable run-of-the-mill winter so far but things may change. I apologise if some feel this is a wind-up, it wasn't meant to be.
  12. Having looked at the models I can only say I'm in complete agreement. This rather unremarkable winter continues. As someone with experience of almost 60 winters, so far I'd put this within the bottom dozen for excitement. Of course things can change but I can see nothing on the horizon yet.
  13. Yes - looking at the models, this tedious run-of-the-mill winter is set to continue. Ho-hum.
  14. Given the current temperatures, how high would a pig have to fly to come back down with snow on it?
