Hi peeps - thought you may like this link: http://www.weatherstations.co.uk/aws_map.htm
It's for independent weather stations over the UK, and there are a fair few in the south west / south central area - so for those of you without a weather station who want to keep an eye on stuff like your pressure / dew points locally etc (especially Thurs into Friday!!)... you may find it useful :-)

Some slight moistyness in the form of very light snow here in Basingstoke - although can't give any stats as my weather station has ceased to function :-)

Yep - light snow in Basingstoke now

Heavy snow for last 10 mins in Basingstoke - Just made it home from work as it started! Dew points @ -1.6 and there looks like a lot of precip heading over the area on the radar... nothing like a good dump(ing) ;-)

As a keen photographer, I remember when I went over to digital, that I was fascinated by these 'orbs'... As has been mentioned, water droplets can cause them, but also any airbourne particulate - normally when a flash is being used and the camera is focussed on another object beyond the particulate the flash light bounces off... you will normally find that a flash has been used when orbs are captured.
Another thing already mentioned are these 'rods' - having accidently caught 'rod' type footage on a number of occasions, and having been able to confirm what I was videoing at the time (and what was also in the shot), they seem to be nothing more than insects with a fast moving wingspeed being caught on a camera (video) where the shutter speed creates this effect.
The above is just my opinion and observations... afterall, I may be wrong ;-)

A nice dusting in Basingstoke, with persistent light snow falling - looking at the radar it seems that the precip keeps forming in an area between Basingstoke and Reading at the moment - will have to see what happens as the morning progresses :-)
