Power just flickered here, fully expect we may get a power outage later on today.
Power out near Wareham, Dorset.

Thank you Michael, (plus all your deserved letters ) for your enjoyable, informed, and often correct (!) forecasts over the past 15 years. As an uninformed lurker on this site, your weekly thoughts on our variable UK weather have been a joy. Enjoy your new retirement, and all the very best with your continued battle with that unpleasant gentleman Mr Parkinson. Happy Christmas, and thanks again. Phil

Hope so, though the latest update from BBC tv was distinctly underwhelming. Even suggested a warming by end of week, and very little precipitation for snow-starved Cambridge Thinking positively.....

Continuing the football theme, a less-than-scientific theory, to buoy up those of us looking forward to some decent snow. Today, Stoke City drew away for the 6th consecutive match. Last time they did that? Dec 1962. ‘Nuff said

Don't know who this RJW is, probably some sort of a blow-in or blowhard possibly?
Anyway ...
The GFS now more in line with the ECM on day 4 now, and the 12z run starting to hint that such a strong low will force the next one or two further south in its wake. Everything after about day ten is just GFS desire to retun to zonality, but you can see the cold is fairly resilient even so, it doesn't get eliminated, just reduced in dominance.
As to rating the various models, the sad fact is no clear dominant favourite really exists, they are all verifying in a rather narrow range, to say one or the other will always be more reliable is sort of like saying Germany or Brazil will always win the World Cup, in fact, even if you said either Germany or Brazil would win, you'd often not always be wrong. (but expecting any other country to win would be lower probability still). Backing the GEM though is a bit like backing England. (ouch)
Ouch indeed However, you’re let off as I enjoy reading your well-researched posts too much!

I can vouch for that CM. I too played on that day in Cambridge. Began the match with the oddest very large but scattered raindrops falling, and finished the game with 2” of snow on the ground. Surprised we were able to finish. I found the snow inspired me and I bagged a brace in a 4-2 win!

Light snow just NW of Cambridge

Short-lived (as ever) in Cambridge. Now stopped.

I just told my wife that she was going to get some 'ridging' for christmas......She must be a mildy, she wasn't impressed
I said the same to mine, and a distinctly cold front swept in, along with some immediate high pressure. I think the only trough around will be the one I'm eating my next few meals from.

The joys of having him as my mentor. And I couldn't have been assigned a better one in my opinion! A super bloke. As they all (and lasses) are at BBC WX Centre.
And he loves the Quo, which proves his superb judgement!

Many thanks - awaiting with port-flavoured breath!

Can anyone just point out where the Christmas skin is available please. Have looked under 'change themes' but only mobile and 'netweather' are available. Thanks

A few flakes falling here broekn grey clouds ...
Where are you?

Without wishing to be pedantic, the forecast on the 7-16 day states snow almost every hour today AND tomorrow. I was pointing out that this is at major odds with the met office forecast, sadly. Here's hoping.
Stop press - met office have turned us (Cambridgeshire) yellow. A step in the right direction!
-
Probably because no snow is forecast to fall until tomorrow!

Im suprised the Herts is still yellow! While the county right next to us is red!
And Cambridgeshire is green!! Do any sages out there concur with this, esp given that the net-weather forecast for my area (just NW of Cambridge) predicts moderate snow throughout the night,or is the net-weather forecast correct?

Moderate to Heavy snow fall @ 10.15
Glen - heading to Ely around 3pm from Cambridge. Are you anywhere near and, if so, how are the roads?
-
Moderate Snow shower at 3pm, Well not much but it was snow, hopefully i have more to report over the weekend.
Guys and Gals - as there are issues with missing info (e.g. locations) why not state your location in your snow report.

Just had a look for a bit of laugh. I've got a daytime maximum of 0C on saturday with an overnight low of -9C, and heavy snow.
God love em. They should hire someone to give it the once over. Might check Ceefax page 406 or whatever the 5 day page is to see whether it says the same.
I know what you're saying, but it's enticing just the same....isn't it? Just suppose BBC had got it right....just suppose....I mean.......JUST SUPPOSE!!!!!!! Are you really saying there's no chance? Really? REALLY!!???? Oh, all right then.....
