  1. Hello, may I come back? Have not posted for, probably a couple of years, due to all sorts of reasons, one of which was I could not remember my password! However, the possibility of some white stuff seems to have jogged my memory! I have been reading the forum regularly though and always felt a bit left out that I could not join in., I have a new device and am still trying to get to grips with it, so my post may seem a bit stilted.  Anyway, how exciting this all is, the excitement of maybe seeing some white stuff is currently outweighing the possible horror of driving around for work all day. Anyway, I hope everyone is blessed with lots of snow over the next day or two!

  2. Back in the West Country - good to be back. Doesn't look like the weather is playing ball though. Does anyone know how dry Monday is supposed to be? Having cancelled a trip to Westonbirt tomorrow because of the rain, I was thinking Monday looked like the opportune moment next week. Thanks.

Well, I can't help with a weather forecast, but I will say that cancelling tomorrow is a brilliant idea. I was at Westonbirt on Tuesday......it was heaving with thousands of people, due to it being half-term!  I've never seen so many people there in the 25 years that I've been going!

Hope it works out for you for next week!

  3. I hope we get less cloud tonight as I would like a chance to see a shooting star or two!

Yes. I like spotting shooting stars too! By the time I've thought of a wish, though, they've already gone!

Is it the Perseids meteor shower (or something) during August and September?

I like anything like that in the night sky, although i'm not very knowlegeable on the matter. Richard Angwin always used to let us know if anything was happening and how to spot it. I can't recall whether or not our fergieweather does the same? Posted Image

PS Many thanks to ARTDEMOLE for answering my question re the Perseids........before I'd even asked it, too! Posted Image

  4. .

For some, one ray of UV seems to be the equivalent of a nuclear bomb - instant death! Now that is living life like a hermit crab.

There are some people with certain medical conditions for whom the intense heat of a week or so ago can prove fatal and It's not a case of being able to stay indoors with curtains closed and the fan on, either, because you still  have to go out to earn a living .It ain't no fun wondering if you are going to make it through.

There is a serious side to the intense heat, just as there is to the extreme cold.

  5. As I get up for work at 5am most mornings- the last week or so it's been very noticeable that I'm having to come down and put the light on in the lounge for the first hour or so.

Haven't spotted the evenings quite as much yet mind.

The other way round from me, then. Jolly nice to know that it's darker at 5am though, it'll soon be dark for me at 6am.....something to look forward to!Posted Image

  6. Depressing thread on a pretty depressing forum.

Only if you like sun and heat!

Some of us like it colder and darker..........it takes all sorts!

Personally, I can't stand hot weather and it makes me snarl (!) when I see posts in the model output discussion thread celebrating and cheering when another horrible hot sweaty spell is coming up!

But, yes, I have noticed with pleasure how the nights are drawing in. Haven't seen any change in the mornings yet, although I get up for work at 6o'clock.

  8. You will get some rain. How heavy is stills tad uncertain, but it is very likely you will see some rainfall.

Estofex concentrate on storm forecasts only. We aren't forecast any storms in our region but we are forecast bog standard rain, perhaps heavy.

That's why estofex haven't included us. Not because we aren't forecast rain, we are, but because we aren't forecast storms.

Thank you AWD. Answering all of our questions and explaining things......it's like having our own meteorological agony aunt. uncle! Posted Image

Either that, or an infant school teacher explaining why we can't always have what we want!Posted Image

You have the patience of a saint! Posted Image

  9. The less said about the 18z NAE the better.

Did not like the BBC Weather report just now. Seems we may miss this stuff!

Or did I take it too literally?

Oh, dear, that all sounds a bit grim. I haven't caught the BBC forecast and don't feel up to trawling through the Model Discussion thread, so........have we got a downgrade? Are we not going to get any rain? Posted Image

Ah, I've just seen the forecast on the beeb.....rain, but no thunder and lightning then (imby) . Don't want to be a party pooper, but although thunder and lightning would be nice, it's the rain that I'm really after, plus a drop in temperature!
