  1. This is the one that worries me for the north - if I'm reading that right we could be looking at 80mph gusts for a few hours overnight.
  2. I think the squall has passed us by... Divide and conquer or some such irrelevance.
  3. I'm sure we've had way over-egged wind speeds forecast for storms before now - but I can't remember which models are the culprits and I'm definitely going to be the mug that says they're over-egging it again this time because I've been caught on my own in an old house when a storm has passed through in the middle of the night. I didn't sleep a wink, I ended up under a table in the kitchen! Looks horrendous for some places tomorrow night, potentially. Also, @Northern Strath, I was looking for suitable Gaelic names with a snowy flavour and have so far failed. Sorry, I shouldn't interfere! Our boys were born in summer so I didn't even think about this!
  4. Squall line comes across in the middle of the night tonight, just as an aperitif for tomorrow's storm. We still have mounds of slush and snow here but the roads (mind, not the pavements) are almost clear now.
  5. 5C, little wind, some cloud and less slush. We can now get out to the street without needing a boat.
  6. I'm sure years ago if you had elderly or infirm neighbours, you'd maybe clear the snow off their path for them. Shops might clear the snow off the pavement outside the shop? I can't believe I'm the only able-bodied snow-shovel owner in the village. New word: slushmageddon.
  7. The roads are pretty unpleasant locally this morning with thick lines of slush making overtaking the 30mph dawdlers quite a challenge...
  8. Perhaps I'll spend the next week watching Twin Peaks with the curtains closed. (The theme music seems particularly appropriate this morning!)
  9. My temp sensor got totally buried by last night's dumping so I dunno what the temp actually is, but there's an obvious thaw on now, looks ugly out there. Drip drip drip and a few woooomfs as slabs fall and land. I have to get the car out again soon and the street looks like it has about 20cm of browning sludge on it. Hmm. Oh 80ll0X to this. Tempted to resume hibernation!
  10. This snow is so heavy, I've had to open a bottle of beer to contain my excitement!
  11. Same here now. Great waves of big heavy flakes billowing around. Unfortunately it looks like the temp is about to go up through 0C very soon. Bugger bugger bugger.
  12. Another prolonged shower here in the middle of the day bringing bin-top depth to 16cm. Phenomenomenal stuff. The place ground to a halt for a couple of hours apart from a tesco van slowly sliding down a hill backwards (yes I laughed). We're now wondering what the cat's doing for excretory needs as she's not been out recently... (not laughing now)
  13. 13cm level snow now. The recent shower was fun, proper thick stuff for an hour or so. Schools shut, roads other than main roads are white for now. Was it Saturday that we last got above freezing here? Or Sunday.
  14. We had a drop more overnight... Not much moving round here yet. -3C, clear sky, little wind now.
  15. Funny thing about the radar, you think, oh it's just taking data and turning it into a user-friendly format for Joe Bloggs. Ha ha. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's crap and usually it's somewhere in between. Lol. Today as far as I was concerned, it was at the crap end of in between. So marginally less crap then the forecasts for disruptive snow. DISRUPTIVE? What did today's snow disrupt? Perhaps one or two gentlefolk decided to postpone their weekly trip to the poodle parlour. I see Klippie is typing. That may be a euphemism. @Klippie, don't jinx it again eh?!
  16. Another snowy Golf.... except this one's generally retired from winter duties in favour of the Yeti...
