  1. UK Outlook for Sunday 13 Feb 2011 to Tuesday 22 Feb 2011: Throughout this period, the weather should stay generally unsettled for much of the UK. Bands of rain will slowly push eastwards across the country, with some snow likely at times in the north, mainly over hills. The heaviest and most persistent of the rain is likely to stay in the west, with drier conditions at times, particularly further east. Winds will occasionally be strong, particularly in the west of the UK, with a risk of gales at times. Temperatures should be around average or just above average initially, but it will be rather cold at times, accentuated by the wind and rain. There is also a small risk of the weather turning much colder later in the period. Updated: 1157 on Tue 8 Feb 2011 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html
  2. UK Outlook for Tuesday 22 Feb 2011 to Tuesday 8 Mar 2011: It is likely to continue to be cold particularly in eastern parts where the wind will make it feel raw. Rainfall amounts are likely to be below average for most areas. However, there may be some wetter and milder interludes in southern and western parts at times, especially to start. Also, where precipitation does fall in eastern parts it may fall as snow at times. Updated: 1200 on Mon 7 Feb 2011 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html
  3. UK Outlook for Saturday 12 Feb 2011 to Monday 21 Feb 2011: Generally unsettled over the weekend and to start next week, with bands of rain slowly pushing northeastwards across the country. Most of the rain will be in the west, where it will occasionally be heavy and prolonged at first, with drier conditions further east. Despite temperatures of around average or just above in the south, it will feel colder in the often strong winds, especially in the north and west of the UK, where there is a risk of gales. Remaining mainly dry in the east through the remainder of the period, with winds becoming east or southeasterly, giving a significant wind chill. Further west it is likely to remain more unsettled and less cold. Updated: 1200 on Mon 7 Feb 2011 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html
  4. Summary Unsettled at first but change is on the way After quite a wet and windy week for much of the UK last week, the weather is set for another change as we head into the middle half of February. The settled weather look like they are heading back to our shores with drier and colder conditions. Monday 7 February 2011 to Sunday 13 February 2011 The wind and rain hangs on Much of the week will bring spells of wet and windy weather across the UK, with western parts seeing the worse of the conditions. However, temperatures will remain near or just above normal for this time of the year. There will be some drier interludes at times, especially on Tuesday when most areas will see some good spells of sunshine. The weekend though heralds a change as high pressure tries to build in from the east. This will allow much cooler conditions to spread into the east with perhaps some wintry showers developing in the north. Monday 14 February 2011 to Sunday 20 February 2011 Turning more settled in the east but cold During the week, high pressure will continue to build across the UK keeping the Atlantic systems mainly at bay to the west of the country. However they will manage to spread into western parts from time to time which will give spells of wet and windy weather for some. Meanwhile, further east will be mostly dry except for some wintry showers moving in from the continent. Temperatures will become rather cold for this time of year with nightime frosts developing, however western parts will be less cold at times as the wind and rain spread in. Monday 21 February 2011 to Sunday 6 March 2011 A mostly settled end to the month Despite remaining strong over the south, the high pressure will loose its grip over the north on occasions allowing the return of some wet and windy conditions at times. Temperatures are set to remain cold throughout the south with frost and fog remaining a problem. Further north though will be much milder as the Atlantic air influences the region. Next week Will March have a spring in its step? http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/10209

Also, where precipitation does fall in eastern parts it may fall as snow, even to low levels. Updated: 1213 on Sun 6 Feb 2011 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html

  15. I hope coast TORRO TORNADO WATCH 2011/001 A TORNADO WATCH has been issued at 1400GMT on Thursday 3rd February 2011 Valid from/until: 1400-0100GMT on Thursday 3rd/Friday 4th February 2011, for the following regions of the United Kingdom & Eire: Parts of (see map) Eire N Ireland Scotland, including the Northern and Western Isles THREATS Tornadoes; hail to 10mm diameter; convective wind gusts to 90 knots; cloud-ground lightning; heavy rain SYNOPSIS Intense Atlantic depression will move north-east, to pass close to the Faeroe Island tonight. The associated cold front will sweep eastwards across the northern parts of Eire/N Ireland, and Scotland this afternoon/evening, and thence through the Northern Isles. Sferics have been detected west of Eire and Scotland, showing that there is strong lifting associated with this. Strong low-level wind shear is likely along the front, suggesting that gusts of 60-70mph, and perhaps 80mph will be possible. In addition, tornadoes are also possible. Behind the front, heavy showers and a few thunderstorms are likely across Scotland, mainly in the west, and across the Western and Northern Isles. The intense pressure gradient is likely to allow gusts of 80-90mph even outside of convection, and up to 100mph possibly across the N Isles. A small risk of tornadoes too. As the front moves southwards across Eire tonight it will become increasingly aligned with the deep layer wind field. Low-level convergence still looks strong along the front, and as minor waves run along the front, a risk exists of tornadoes and strong wind gusts. However, convection will likely be fairly shallow in nature. http://www.torro.org...te/forecast.php
