I know right. Not looking forward to the extra layers. I’m more worried about the period post next weekend, looking properly foul.

Must admit, i'd not like it to be overly damp. Cooler, freesher I welcome at this time of year when work throw large projects at me but the damp prospects will make it difficult since water and electronics don't mix. I've a massive project coming up in the North East in July.

We don’t get supercell storms here, ever really. I remember a supercell affecting York a few years ago and a few supercells have affected the Dales in the past decade, but we never get them here. Just rotten luck (or good luck if you hate storms).

We did have a thunderstorm in May 2016 that delivered hail the size of 10 pence coins though - my local Sainsbury’s supermarket had its roof cave in. This was in Colton.

That storm caused a power cut too.

In 38 years, I've probably witnessed only 2 exceptional night-time storms in leeds with constant lightning and bangs throughout the night.. I believe i was about 8 and 10 years old at the time, nothing since.

I thought with global warming and more weather extremes in the uk storms like that might become more common but not here unfortanately. I think down south like down in the south and south east its a different world. They seem to get anvil crawlers, the lot every few years..

They seem to be very hit and miss these days.

We have had interesting storms which have given massive rainfalls. August 2005 and May 2016 spring to mind round here.

Hi, It's time for another update:

    Update:

I somehow managed to fall asleep but if you were to ask me- It's due to the fact I was exhausted and I'd write it as "passing out" again.
By some miracle, I slept through the additional scorching heat. My head now hurts which is just another example of why I hate this weather...
The air seems to still be dry with the most poorly made breeze that I've ever experienced. It's not even cold air, it's like a mix of tropical air.
I've awoken with my eyes feeling dry, my body is aching again, my stomach seems okay so far. I feel slightly sick and slight disorientation.

My clothes are all sweaty while my face seems to feel mostly dry. My hair is definitely leaking sweat though.
I was planning on sleeping longer but I feel it's too warm to do this again...
AC is turned on while the window is open / closed. Either way, not even a slight improvement.
Tomorrow looks to be very similar to what we experienced today... Looks like it's going to be another super hot day -_-
At this point, I'm just praying for an arctic blast of air or winter-like chills appearing through a miracle.
If the temperature seriously rises to 40+ this year... I'm really going to write SUMMER as the WORST SEASON OF ALL TIME!

    What's your a/c unit?

I've started to leave mine on overnight and use the quieton earplugs so I can sleep properly. Tiredness and having a job where I drive for a living do not mix well.

Question for people with AirCon units - How do you vent the warm air from the unit to the outside with the type of windows most people in the UK have ?

    Thanks

I upgraded my upstairs windows and chose a modern sash window (was expensive) especially for my a/c as it's a rare 240V twin hose unit.

Single hose units will vent through casement windows fine and I don't recommend sealing it as the exhaust will create a negative air pressure in the room. If you seal the window, the air lost out of the exhaust will be replaced by hot air from the house and you'll notice the a/c unit feels useless. Don't extend the hose either, try pick a location below the vent so the unit will make use of the air that comes in from the open vent.

  6. The lack of moving air is something I find worse than the unescapable heat feeling.

Working outdoors, I deal with the heat and adjust daily tasks to suit but with the air quality is triggering Asthma, it's not easy to deal with that so well. Similar happens in Winter with the cold air but there's less neighbours having BBQ's.

How much £ per hour does a typical air con use? Thinking about getting one and just leaving it on for an hour or two upstairs before bed. I'm assuming once the sun goes down it won't heat up that quickly after turning it off?

Mine draws 1350KW when the compressor in it runs. That cycles on and off to maintain the set temperature.

I'm still on an old fixed tarrif of 17p/KWh and over the weekend I spent less than £2.50 on electric per day and I keep the unit on the entire daytime if i'm home. I do have solar though but best example was the 40C period where I left the unit set to 24C for 4 days solid. That cost just under £5 per day in power.

Gaming is why my bedroom is 28c+! Daniel has his pc on in there all the time

It's one of many reasons as to why I got the decent a/c and a suitable sash window for in here.... VR and modern PC components don't half make good heaters. Other is the vintage audio video equipment that also generates heat.

I’ve never spoken to anyone who hates the heat.

That is apart from the new boy who’s moaning about it lol.

    Gaming friends.

    Says it all then.

    Hah! True....

I tolerate heat and the cold. I tend to prepare for summer with the reverse of how I prepare for Winter, except I have limited fun in Summer with keeping a fleece on in this weather. It's amazing how many people that triggers to quite worrying levels. It stops me burning. Admittingly I find it easier to keep warm than cool and the fleece thing won't help that. I can last 2-3h in high heat till I run back to the car to cool off or grab something tasty from a coffee shop.

I have a/c at home but it's not set ice cold. It's an expensive and super rare double hose portable that I set to 24C which keeps the room at a pleasant 23C without costing a bucket to run.

I find it odd that you're the only person that seems to find these people...

Sun's just come out here and warming things up but still only 18c.

    He's not the only one!

I know loads that hate it and plenty more that hate it when hot days last for longer than a few days to a week... Most are my gaming friends and those who work in places that aren't nice in hot and still conditions.
