  1. Is the humidity still set to shoot up from Wednesday?

Anyway, i'm now in the real world with energy as my 3 year fixed deal expired on the 31st Aug. So far on the new tariff it's costing about £4.40/day on a/c use when I get home, despite the solar helping. Next Summer will be fun....

Small price to pay though for an important night's sleep since driving is part of my job. Can't be exhausted and risk the safety of everyone.

  2. I've mixed feelings over summer.

The stressed engineer in me loved the cool sunless months that made several parts of my job way easier but, the lazy wekeend cold blooded Yorkshireman in me thought it was overly poor. In a way it is in every way, a reverse of the unseadonal winters we get almost every year!

  3. I really wish I had a body which had a slower metabolism or something so I could enjoy the elusive summer weather and not feel like some oddity! I've tried so many times to get myself to adjust but I end up a hot sweaty mess with a stonking headache. Ironically in California 11 years back, I had zero issues with the high 30's/low 40's they had there that August.

Yesterday I was working at a football match. It wasn't hot but it was somewhat humid and stuffy. I put the a/c on when I got home and promptly collapsed till about 5am with the radio still going. Am I unfit? Unwell? Who knows. I don't feel unfit and in Winter I don't feel the cold one bit. I'm in my early 40's.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the season, hope there's something for everyone to enjoy!

Long periods of dull weather have really taken a toll on lots of people.

I’ve noticed just how many people feel depressed this summer compared to last year, and also how many people have colds in my office. It’s due to the very poor summer we’ve been having.

Yeah. That's one reason why we kinda do need a summer and learn to cope more with summer weather. I so need to do the latter and find a happy medium.

I enjoyed and took advantage of the cooler weather most of July with a huge project in Sunderland. The hotel closest to the venue had a/c but paid parking. The hotel out of the centre has free parking and no a/c. A worthy compromise which thankfully paid off and the project wasn't a draining mental chore as another in Leeds 2 years before was in the summer heat. It hits at night, especially if I use ibuprofen and paracetamol to dull sun induced headaches..... i'm my own worst enemy sometimes! Work H&S over uniforms needs adapting I think too.

  5. Yeah, i'd just do the bedroom. It makes alot of difference being able to get a good sleep in hot conditions. Perhaps the living room too if heat conditions become regular every year.

You won't be able to sleep with it on all night, if it's a portable. I used earplugs during that spell last year where I left it on at 24C for a solid 4 days (cost £5/day on 17p/KWh, with solar helping in daylight). It's the cooling version of the past where one room was heated in the depths of winter.

Fitted units need to be done properly, there's technical stuff invovled and future questions as to the heating side. Fitted units are usually air based heat pumps and considerations to replace a conventional wet heat system with an air based system need to be looked at too.

    An amazing day today.

My factual post about the 06z GFS didn't go down well in the model thread. 🤣 I guess it's hard for them when any heat potential is reduced. They need to toughen up and stop being so sensitive because the chances are its us heat haters who are going to suffer in the years to come. We won't be this fortunate again for a long time I fear. So too right I am going to relish this year. 😄

Stock up on cheaper a/c units! All too many forget that Summer is an annual thing and sell them off cheap when they're not needed....

  7. It's been a blessing so far for me. Working on a massive project in Sunderland for most of the month, the cooler temps have been most welcome for working in and picking a hotel away from the centere with free parking but compromising on not having a/c. If it had been overly hot, i'd eventually loose my calm and let the pressure win, eventually making mistakes and ruining the huge job i'm up there doing.

Also a warmer, benign winter would be welcome. My 3 year fixed term ends at the end of next month. I'll very much miss the 17p/KWh for electric and 3p/KWH for gas....

  8. Must admit the current weather is making the day job so much easier.... it's cool and sunny which is lovely for getting stuff done outside in a relaxing, less stress way.

However, the awesome June has lead to a bumper crop of fruit from the rasperry bush. The fruit trees are doing well so far too.

Just had a picnic at Sutton Bank, thanks for the recommendations 🙂. This is the current view. Things building and its feeling very hot but with a nice breeze to cool it a bit (thanks to the fact I'm on a hill).

Hopefully being seeing some storms soon.

It really is lovely up there. Hopefully you'll see some action appear.
